These are some good starting points for figuring out if your child is ready for lessons!

🎶 Count to 20 easily and with proficiency.

🎶 Ability to recite, recognize, and wright alphabet.

🎶 Stamina to sit for 30mins during lessons and to practice a minumim of 10mins a day- 3x a week.

🎶 They are showing signs of enjoying the piano and wanting to make-up songs on it.

🎶 One of the most exciting signs is if they ask to take lessons!

Genres and Subjects Taught

I focus most of my energy in lessons on the basics of music theory and I also love to assign music personalized to each students liking. It's always more fun to play music you like! My teaching can take on many different styles depending on what the parent/guardian wishes. I typically ask if they would like their child to know a lot about music theory and to be trained to sightread easily OR focus on playing songs their child loves while not focusing so much on the theory side.. and there’s always the mix between the two!

Teaching blends perfectly with my love for children & music!

I started taking lessons at a young age of 9 after my Mom noticed me continually playing around on the piano.

I was teaching one student at the age of 13 and by 17 years old I had 12!

*Most of my teachers were older ladies that I loved dearly however.. they can be intimidating to young children.. throughout my years of teaching I’ve found that me being younger has helped kids be more comfortable and less intimidated. Each child will react different but thats just my personal experience!

Hello, I'm Sarah Steeves.

I recently got married in December and moved from Washington state.. to be near my husbands family and business in Spearfish, SD.

I would call myself a florist at heart, as I love gardening.

Spending many of my teen years nannying you could say I love children and have a soft spot for them all!

I spend my time mostly at church (reformed Christian), with my husbands family, reading, and/or baking.
