4th Grade Exhibition Kickoff!

This morning, our Spartanburg Day School fourth graders kicked off one of the most meaningful parts of their Lower School journey: IB Exhibition.

Exhibition is the culmination of the learning, skills and experiences students have built throughout their Lower School years. Over the course of this year, students will work collaboratively on projects driven by topics they are passionate about!

They will ask questions, research, communicate, think critically, manage their work, and ultimately take action together.

Exhibition is about more than just what students know. It’s about student agency! It gives students the voice, choice and ownership to decide what matters to them and where their learning can take them.

This is Learning Lived in action: students taking everything they’ve learned and using it to explore real ideas, pursue their own questions, collaborate with others and create something meaningful.

The kickoff is only the beginning. We can’t wait to see where their curiosity takes them this year!

Today, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of people throughout our community and across the country.

We hope our Griffin families are enjoying a safe and relaxing Labor Day. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus tomorrow!

A few more faces from a memorable College Colors Day at SDS!

A special THANK YOU to the Wofford College women’s lacrosse team for spending part of their morning with our Lower School Griffins! The Terriers helped welcome our students to campus with plenty of high-fives and smiles as the school day got underway.

We were also thrilled to have members of the Converse University women’s lacrosse and men’s basketball teams join us for the morning.

We’re grateful to all of these college student-athletes for taking the time to be part of College Colors Day and for helping us create a special experience for our students.

Learning Lived extends far beyond the classroom at Spartanburg Day School.

Today, our Upper School Business Entrepreneurship class took a field trip to meet with local entrepreneur and SDS Board of Trustees member Raj Patel at his new business, Crispy Chick. Students had the opportunity to sample the menu, create peer reviews, interview a local entrepreneur, and hear firsthand what it takes to turn an idea into a business.

Experiences like these give our students the opportunity to connect what they are learning in the classroom to the people, businesses, and opportunities within our own community.

At SDS, Learning is Lived — in the classroom, throughout our community and wherever curiosity takes us!

A GRIFFIN CONNECTION ACROSS GENERATIONS

Before Friday night’s historic home opener kicked off at Pennell Field, Spartanburg Day School welcomed a special Griffin back to midfield.

Bill Hamilton, Class of 1979, served as the Honorary Captain for SDS’s first home varsity football game in over 40 years.

Bill knows what it means to wear the red and blue on a Friday night. A Griffin for seven years, he was a student government leader, football team captain, basketball team MVP and is a member of the Spartanburg Day School Athletics Hall of Fame.

A graduate of Wofford College, Bill is Vice President of Cannon Roofing in Spartanburg and has remained connected to SDS for more than four decades. His Griffin legacy continued with his sons, Henry ’08 and James ’12, both SDS lifers.

VARSITY FOOTBALL UPDATE: The start of tonight’s varsity football game at Spartanburg Day School scheduled for 7:30 p.m. has been delayed due to severe storms in the area.

Estimated start time is now 8:05 p.m. Please continue to monitor SDS social media platforms for any additional updates.

There was no mistaking it when you arrived on campus this morning. IT’S GAME DAY!

Our cheerleaders and varsity football players were out in full force at the drop-off areas this morning, welcoming Griffins to campus and getting everyone fired up for a historic night at Pennell Field!

Tonight, Spartanburg Day School hosts its first varsity football home game in more than 40 years!

Keep that RED OUT going tonight! Wear your red, bring your Griffin spirit and help us pack Pennell Field as SDS takes on Thornwell Charter School.

• Pennell Field does not have permanent spectator seating
• Fans are encouraged to bring a collapsible chair
• Designated grass seating areas are available for home and visiting fans
• Griffin Store will have collapsible chairs available for purchase

🎒 CLEAR BAG POLICY
Approved bags include:
• Clear bags no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”
• 1-gallon clear plastic storage bags
• Small clutch purses no larger than 5” x 9”
• Diaper bags when accompanied by an infant
🚫 Backpacks, large purses, drawstring bags, mesh bags, and non-approved camera bags are not permitted.

• Concessions will be available for purchase beginning at 6:45 p.m.
