Carpentry students at Daniel Morgan Technology Center helped restore longtime fixtures in the town of Cowpens, paying tribute to the town's rich history as the nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America!
Since 1976, wooden cutout soldiers of the American Revolution have been located at Town Hall. The soldier cutouts were first renovated in the 1990s. Over the years, the cutouts began to fade and faced natural weathering.
Last month, two Cowpens family-owned businesses, C & C Thunder Custom Cycles and Joe Ponder's Used Cars, purchased materials and hired a local artist, Sheila Abbott, to restore the soldier displays. Students in Daniel Morgan Technology Center's carpentry program played a key role in the project by cutting out each of the soldier figures. Ms. Abbott then painted the cutouts and prepared them for display outside Town Hall.
Thanks to the combined efforts of our students, local businesses, volunteers, and community leaders, these soldiers will serve as a reminder of Cowpens' heritage for generations to come. Great job, students!
