History
• Founded in 1849 by Reverend Newton Pinckney Walker as a private School for the Deaf
• School for the Blind established in 1855
• Became a state school in 1856
• Cedar Springs Academy started in 1977

Governance
The work of the school is overseen by the school’s president and an all volunteer board of commissioners appointed by the governor. The 10-member board includes representatives

Rainy days at camp are the perfect opportunity for some fun indoor adventures!

On Tuesday, campers embraced their creativity with a trio of galactic-themed activities. They painted their very own "moonlight masterpieces," created cosmic rhythms during "astro beats," and made out-of-this-world "galactic grub" pizza.

We've wrapped up our senior posts, celebrating 18 graduating seniors this year. Each one has exciting plans ahead, whether they're heading to college or entering the workforce! We're immensely proud of our students and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

🎓 Honoring Our SCSDB Graduating Seniors! 🎓

Join us in celebrating Jasper Womick, a proud graduate of the School for the Deaf!

From Spartanburg, Jasper spent his entire educational journey at SCSDB, beginning in Pre-K. He actively engaged in numerous campus activities, including Varsity football, robotics, and Academic Bowl. His fondest memories are from his childhood in Thackston, with a standout being the Halloween party. This fall, he plans to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Join us in celebrating Ava Raleigh, a proud graduate of the School for the Deaf!

From Moore, Ava's fondest memories were working with AAC agriculture teacher, Annette Bodie, and helping cultivate plants for the student's seasonal plant sales. She was also an active participant in SCSDB's FFA program. As a committed student, Ava's efforts were recognized when she received the School for the Deaf's Outstanding Senior Award at graduation.

🎓 Honoring Our SCSDB Graduating Seniors! 🎓

Join us in celebrating Aaron Sease, a proud graduate of the School for the Deaf!

From Newberry, Aaron's fondest memories at SCSDB were in Thackston Hall. Similarly, Hall Dorm was his favorite place during his time from fourth grade through high school. Both dorms offered enjoyable activities and opportunities to hang out with friends. Aaron also took part in the work-based learning program, gaining experience at Ingles, and he plans to work at Food Lion in the future.

🎓 Honoring Our SCSDB Graduating Seniors! 🎓

Join us in celebrating Piper Graham, a proud graduate of the School for the Blind!

From Hartsville, Piper draws inspiration from her favorite quote, “You can learn to fly on the way down,” song lyrics by Maddie & Tae.

During her time on campus, Piper distinguished herself as a committed student leader. She developed valuable skills through her involvement with the Kelly's Kids program and her work with the Pre-K class at the School for the Blind. This Fall, she plans to attend Columbia College to major in Early Childhood Education, with aspirations of becoming a Child Life Specialist. In recognition of her achievements, Piper was honored as the School for the Blind's Outstanding Senior at graduation.

🎓 Honoring Our SCSDB Graduating Seniors! 🎓

Join us in celebrating Reuben Monroe, a proud graduate of the School for the Deaf!

From Roebuck, Reuben actively engaged in numerous Applied Academic Center (AAC) projects and activities. His involvement included constructing doors and doghouses, working on a lawn mower and an ATV, and participating in a doghouse building competition with Spartanburg's new Pet Resource Center. He has plans to attend college to pursue studies in becoming an electrician.
