As we quickly approach our 2026 conference on July 23, we're taking the time to highlight our deep bench of inspiring speakers. First up: Our keynote speaker, Phyllis Harris.

Phyllis, a 1982 alumna of Converse University, is a powerhouse in law, compliance, and environmental sustainability with a career spanning three decades at Fortune 1 & Fortune 2 companies, the nation's largest nonprofits, and the U.S. government. She currently serves as the Chief Legal & Risk Officer for the American Cancer Society, the nation's premier public health nonprofit, guiding legal, risk and governance strategy for the CEO & Executive Team to "end cancer as we know it, for everyone."

Previously, Phyllis led global environmental compliance at Amazon, safeguarded the nation’s blood supply during the COVID crisis at the American Red Cross, and shaped compliance and corporate legal functions at Walmart Inc. She began her career at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where she enforced the nation’s environmental laws and advanced international capacity‑building as the Deputy Assistant Administrator and the Regional Counsel for the southeast.

Phyllis is a graduate of Converse and the University of Florida College of Law. Phyllis served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2018-2022 and led the transition to Converse University and the co-educational model.

A trailblazer recognized for her vision and impact, Phyllis Harris continues to drive change across sectors—championing public health, environmental sustainability, and corporate responsibility.
