We are absolutely blown away by this gesture, but if you knew Mrs. Kim, then you probably are not surprised. Over the past few years, we have worked closely with Mrs. Kim and The Expositor to support our students in a real-world setting. Most recently, The Expositor employed Warrior Media students to travel and live-stream away games. Mrs. Kim was the lead on this project and worked closely with our commentators. She also started a local scholarship to support these students in their post-secondary studies.

One of those scholarship recipients, Jack Bouldin, said, “Mrs. Wood was one of the sweetest and most selfless people I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. During my time with Warrior Media, she always made it a priority to put the students first and made us feel supported in everything we did. Through her work with the Expositor, she played such an important role in keeping our community connected and was always a tremendous supporter of Warrior Media. Her kindness and the impact she made on me and so many people will never be forgotten.”

Another scholarship recipient, Sam Dicus, said, “I was incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to cover away games for The Expositor, and I was extremely grateful for the trust that Kim Wood placed in me to represent her and The Expositor live on air. There aren’t too many people who would have paid my way to stay and cover a basketball tournament in Florida, but then again, there weren’t too many people like Mrs. Wood. While I could probably count on one hand how many of times those away streams actually went smoothly, due to bad fans, bad WiFi, bad hosts, or some combination of the three, Mrs. Wood was always supportive and eager to help. I was so lucky to have known her and worked alongside her, and I know I join many in the community who mourn her passing.”

Mrs. Kim not only supported Warrior Media and our students, but she also supported me as an educator. She always matched my energy for a fast phone call or voice text–– and I don’t know that she ever told me “no” to an idea. She saw Warrior Media as a chance to pour into students and instill a love of journalism. Looking back over our texts last spring, Mrs. Kim let me know she was retiring, and her final message read, “You will always have a special place in my heart.” So I will end with the same sentiment. Mrs. Kim will always have a special place in my heart and in the hearts of those whom she impacted in Warrior Media.

White County High School senior Andrew Price has been awarded the Bill Penn Broadcast Scholarship, receiving $2,500 from Stonecom Radio toward his secondary education at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. The annual award honors the legacy of long time broadcaster Bill Penn.

Price plans to major in broadcasting and communications with the ultimate goal of becoming a college football play by play commentator.

“All of the money from it is going to go towards my tuition at University of Tennessee Knoxville and hopefully I’ll be able to complete all four years there and get my degree in broadcasting and communications,” Price said.

“They say you have to love your job and what you’re going to be doing for the rest of your life and I just think broadcasting and communications, especially sports broadcasting, is something that I could wake up every day and actually be excited to go do,” Price said.
