We are proud of our HOSA students who volunteered with the Northern Nevada Alzheimer’s walk this morning! Students put a lot of smiles on peoples faces cheering for the participants. It was a great experience plus getting to see Sports Med Alumni still giving back to the community is always a bonus!

This week we celebrated our Sports Medicine Academy students at our annual awards night. It was truly amazing to see how many family members attended to share in this special event! We handed out over 250 awards to our students who completed the sports medicine pathway both this year and last, along with seniors in Medical Terminology, and HOSA students! This group of students managed to earn 1,582 free college credits by going through the Sports Medicine Program! Congratulations to Alyssa Shestack for receiving our 2022 Outstanding Senior in Sports Medicine Award! Plenty of smiles and hugs were shared throughout the evening. We wish the best to our seniors and know you will make us proud!
On a sad note we are having to say good-bye to an astounding teacher, Mrs. Calonico, who is moving out of state. The Sports Medicine Academy would not be what it is today without all of her love, hard work, and dedication she has given for almost 10 years!

We are so grateful for our postsecondary partners that provide impactful opportunities to our students!
UNR opened their doors to us once again and gave our Seniors an experience they’ll never forget. Students were quizzed by first year medical students on medical terminology while they further investigated real human anatomy! 🩻⚕️
Thank you, UNSOM!

TMCC’s Maxine Jacob’s School of Nursing is one of our most loyal and cherished partners in education!
They, once again, provided our Seniors with an engaging and educational opportunity to explore the world of nursing! From placing NG tubes to checking vitals on a super cool robot (Sim Woman), our students applied hands-on skills while practicing the medical terminology they’ve learned all year long.
Thank you, Dr. Covert and all the wonderful nurses at TMCC!! OUR FIRST INDUSTRY TOUR IN 2 YEARS!!

HOSA members participated in their 4th community service event this school year! I love and appreciate how a group of teenagers gave up their Saturday morning volunteering at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. These students sorted and packed over 350 boxes of food ready to ship out to help those in our community. I received many compliments on how hard these students worked and how polite they were.

We are so proud of our HOSA Chapter at SSHS! Partnering with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, 30 students dedicated a few hours over the weekend to helping clean up a part of Golden Eagle Regional Park. This area will be used as a future Tree Farm for the City of Sparks! The students worked very hard on this project along with picking up trash around the fields. Four dumpsters were filled with weeds and trash picked up by our students today!
Service Before Self!

A big THANK YOU to our amazing family members/ healthcare professionals who visited our Health Science classes.
Students had the pleasure of learning about many different careers within the Health Science and Public Safety cluster- ranging from fire safety and nursing to surgical robotics and myofunctional therapy! They obtained insight to the attributes, skills and education needed to enter the healthcare field, and were able to hear some amazing stories!
We are so thankful for our partnerships with families and industry. Our volunteers provide such meaningful experiences for our students that they’ll remember forever. 💜⚕️🐾

All our level ones in Health Science (and our class level fours in Medical Terminology) just completed a service project of teaching “Hands Only CPR” and basic first aid skills to Ms. Rapp’s health students. And we are so PROUD of them!
It took two days to teach all classes, and our students definitely showed they knew all things CPR and first aid as they seamlessly answered questions and taught the health students well. They also emulated qualities of healthcare workers by communicating effectively and showing professionalism from start to finish.
Through their efforts, more peers now have skills to effectively save lives.
This is what we are all about! ⚕️💜🐾
