Assistant Director, Campus Safety and Security
St. Thomas Aquinas College (Sparkill, NY) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director, Safety and Security, reporting directly to the Director of Campus Health and Safety. This is a highly visible position on campus that is responsible for ensuring the wellbeing, safety, and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Assists the Director in all day-to-day activities of the Campus Safety and Security function and in the development and implementation of goals, policies, guidelines, and procedures including the IACLEA Accreditation process.
Coordinates and maintains staffing and duty schedule for officers and manages contract security services. Maintains the campus safety department payroll and ensures that campus safety personnel have the required and appropriate in-service training, certifications, and licensing, as required.
Recruits and selects a workforce that reflects the diversity of the college community, conducts background checks and completes required administrative tasks for new officers and ensures a work environment respectful of differences.
Coordinates culturally appropriate training for campus safety staff and students.
Participates in committees and task force groups including the student behavior intervention and support team; and College threat assessment team, as assigned.
Conducts health and safety presentations to small and large groups.
Responds to incidents on campus, determines actions, documents a complete written record of the incidents to meet federal and College reporting requirements.
Conducts investigations, writes reports, and tracks cases through adjudication.
Assists the Director in enacting the College’s emergency response and evacuation framework: in fire incidents, bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, inclement weather, infrastructure failures, and acts of terror.
Oversee compliance with Federal, State, and Local reporting requirements such as the Clery Act and NYS Educational Law.
Supervises the fire inspections of all campus buildings on a regular schedule and completes all required local/state fire reports.
Key member of the after-hours on-call Campus Safety Administrative Team, shift will be primarily evening hours and serves as a Patrol Shift Supervisor as directed.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree, in lieu of degree, 8 years relevant work experience.
Relevant experience in law enforcement, security, and/or higher education
Supervisory experience.
A valid driver’s license.
A valid New York State Security Guard License or Active Police Officer status.
Proficient in Google Suite or Microsoft Office Suite products such as Word and Excel.
Ability to work evenings, overnights, and weekends, as needed.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Salary
The salary will range from $65,000-$75,000. The provided salary range reflects the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
