This is an important message from the Washoe County School District.
The fires in our community continue to significantly impact our community with changing conditions, evacuations, high winds, and power outages.
In consultation with public safety officials, and at their request, the following nine schools will remain closed on Wednesday, August 12:
1. Desert Heights Elementary School
2. Silver Lake Elementary School
3. Lemmon Valley Elementary School
4. Alyce Taylor Elementary School
5. Jesse Hall Elementary School
6. Spanish Springs Elementary School
7. Natchez Elementary School
8. Shaw Middle School
9. Spanish Springs High School
At this time, all other schools are scheduled to be in session on Wednesday.
As a reminder, bus transportation will not be able to operate in the areas designated as “red” or “yellow,” meaning those that have been evacuated or are standing by for possible evacuation. To see the areas that are designated as such, please visit www.perimetermap.com.
We will continue to work with public safety officials and monitor this emergency impacting our community.
It is important to note that if the situation changes overnight and additional schools need to be closed, families will be notified by 5:30 a.m., Wednesday morning.
We appreciate your understanding. Thank you.
