Simply Music Piano: I teach in person and online, groups and private. We have students of all ages playing great-sounding music in several different musical styles including Classical, Blues, Contemporary, Accompaniment pieces, etc. Our hands-on approach allows students to quickly build a large repertoire of music in their first year. We allow students to be creative and encourage them to arrange and compose based on the tools they are learning.
How is this program different? Traditional programs often start with teaching students how to read music as a means of learning how to play the piano. In that environment, students ability to decode all the symbols on the page completely dictates their ability to play. This can and often does have long lasting negative consequences. This reading-based approach to learning to play the piano can feel unnatural, especially to young children. We did get to talk for years before we ever learned to read and spell. This is a normal and natural process that we can also be apply to learning music (a language). So in Simply Music Piano, we do not apply a reading-based approach as means of learning how to play. Instead we *temporarily* delay the reading process and immerse the students in the process of playing. This is a completely and profoundly different experience! It is a more natural way to learn music. The results are that in a few short months students are already playing contemporary, classical, blues, accompaniments pieces, composing and improvising, all kinds of musical styles.

Yes, you have permission to make up your own music. Sometimes, that is all that is needed. Great composition Ammon!

Creativity is absolutely is one of the greatest gifts we have been given. A piece created by a student and coming from their own inspiration is one of the most joyous experiences. Summer is almost here so enjoy, "Summer Dance," composed so beautifully by Savanah.

Prelude No. 1 by Gershwin played by London and Savanah. Some tricky rhythms in there and with only one practice session together, you pulled it off. Nice job!

Mix up of "Squidgies Boogie" and "The Gaz." Great job Bryan and Sadie!

Night Storm. Three siblings like playing together. Enjoy the improvisation by Bryan at the end.

Go Grady and Avery! Way to stay in time with each other.

Ensemble recitals are the best. Parents tell me they enjoy these kinds of recitals the most. Enjoy this jazzed-up version of Greensleeves/What Child is This.

This is Avery, age 6, and has had about 6 lessons. She made up a piece while I played Honey Dew. She then took her melody and made up words. The melody has components from all the 3 pieces she has learned so far (which she is not aware of, but I am): Dreams Come True, Night Storm, and Jackson Blues. Way to go Avery!
