🦠Hands On Learning with Our Medical Detectives!🔬

Students experimented with Glow Germ in Mrs. Key’s Medical Detectives class. Glow Germ is a special lotion that glows under a black light and helps simulate just how easily germs and viruses can spread.

As our Medical Detectives continue learning about diseases and viruses, students took a moment to investigate how germs travel from person to person; and, most importantly, what we can do to help stop the spread!

There’s nothing better than seeing students excited, curious, and engaged in learning in the classroom. What an AMAZING way to spend the day! 🧪🧫✨

What an incredible day! A huge THANK YOU to all of our amazing staff and students who gave their time, energy, and enthusiasm to help make our CTE presence at ABC Day such a success!

👏 From setting up and running activities to sharing programs, answering questions, and welcoming visitors, we couldn’t have done it without you. 👏

A special thank you to the ABC Day Board for the time, planning, coordination, and dedication that went into bringing this incredible community event together. We appreciate all of the work that happens behind the scenes to make a day like this possible! 💙

🔬🧬 From the Classroom to Cancer Research, and Back Again! 🧬🔬

While students were enjoying summer break, Bethel High School Biomedical Science teacher Jennifer Morrison traded her classroom for a lab coat! 🥼

Jennifer spent eight weeks as a teacher-scientist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center as part of the Hutch Fellowship for Excellence in STEM Teaching, working alongside researchers in the Markey Lab and exploring how the gut microbiome and immune system influence cancer treatment outcomes.

🩺 Even better? She’s bringing that experience directly back to her students! Jennifer developed new curriculum inspired by her research, connecting Biomedical Science students with current scientific research and STEM careers. 🧪

We are incredibly proud and appreciative to have educators like Jennifer who continue learning, exploring, and bringing those experiences back into the classroom to inspire our students!

💙 When Classroom Skills Become Lifesaving Skills 💙

When a man went into cardiac arrest at a basketball game, Ethan, a student at Spanaway Lake High School, knew exactly what to do.

Drawing on the CPR and AED training he learned in Kristyn Dahl’s Sports Medicine class, Ethan jumped into action alongside his aunt, providing lifesaving care until Central Pierce Fire & Rescue arrived.

💬 “Ms. Dahl really helped me,” Ethan shared. “It just became muscle memory.”

🇺🇸 Remembering September 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today marks 25 years since the events of September 11, 2001.

We pause to remember the lives that were lost, honor the first responders and everyday heroes who showed extraordinary courage, and recognize the countless families and communities forever impacted by that day.

For many of our students, September 11 is an event they know only through history. As educators, we have an opportunity to help the next generation understand not only what happened, and also the stories of courage, compassion, service, and unity that followed.

Thank you to our BHS JROTC for the beautiful honor and remembrance ceremony, the BHS Choir and ASL Club members, and our honored guests who joined us for the ceremony. Thank you to the keynote speaker Major General McGuire, Dr. Brian Lowney, and two JROTC student speakers.

Today, we remember. We honor. And we reflect. ❤️🤍💙
