I love when the garden refuses to call it quits just because summer is over š A few things that help me keep the color going:
āļø I keep deadheading zinnias and marigolds so they continue pushing out fresh buds.
šŗ Dahlias can keep flowering beautifully until frost finally knocks them back.
š¼ Calendula actually appreciates cooler weather and often looks happier once summer heat fades.
š Asters and garden mums are some of my favorite natural late-season bloomers.
š I also leave scarlet sage flowering as long as possible because pollinators may still be visiting.
How long they last really depends on the first frost, but October definitely doesnāt have to mean an empty flower bed.8
