In case you missed it, here is the transcript for the Sunday, September 6, 2026 message:
Good evening, Cougars. We hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day weekend. As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow; we will see all our students Tuesday morning. Parents/Guardians, our attendance rate dropped four points last week; please ensure that your students' attendance stays a priority as we move throughout the semester. Time in seat is one of the biggest indicators of student success, and it is imperative that students get off to a good start each semester.

Students and families, please be aware that for the current school year, students will not be allowed to ride a bus other than the one they are assigned to. Many buses are already at maximum capacity, so for the current school year, students will be unable to ride home from school on a friend's or family member's bus.

Sign-ups for the PSAT begin tomorrow for any student who may want to participate. A call and an email went out about this opportunity Wednesday afternoon; please check with our Assistant Principal over testing, Ms. Herman, if you have any questions. Students wanting to participate must sign up by September 18th.

In athletics this week, our Men's Soccer and Women's Volleyball teams are both at home on Thursday. Soccer takes on Heide Trask, and Volleyball has a match against Whiteville. The JV Soccer game begins at 4, the JV Volleyball game at 4:30, followed by the Varsity games at 6. On Friday, we are hosting our Military Appreciation Night as our football team takes on Richlands at 7.

Friday Night football is more than just a game. It is about tailgating (thank you to our Boosters for the delicious food this week), staff working the ticket booth and entrances, cheerleaders, the dance team, members of the band, JROTC, and, of course, the players, coaches, and fans who come out and support us.

Just in case you missed it, here is the transcript of the 8/30/2026 message:
Good afternoon South families, we hope everyone has had a nice weekend. It was a great first week back last week, and we want to thank our students and families for their attention to our dress code, and digital device policies. It was also a great first week for attendance as our school had a 96% attendance rate. Attendance is a focus of ours this year and we hope to continue with those positive numbers. Attendance is one of the biggest indicators of academic success and there is a direct correlation to attendance and student performance. Please make sure you have reviewed our schools attendance policy in the Student/Parent Handbook. A link to the handbook will be in the email that comes with this phone call. Students can lose course credit for excessive absences even if they are passing the class numerically. But with good attendance students can exempt all of their CMA exams, these are exams in courses that do not have a state end of course exam.

A big part of our attendance is our Flex period that falls between 2nd and 3rd period classes. This week students will continue to return to their homeroom/advisory class during Flex. They will continue to visit their Advisor each Monday throughout the year, students who check out during this time may be missing critical information. There will be no Flex time the week of Sept. 7th, as students will get extra class time in each of their courses over the course of the week. Our normal Flex schedule will begin the week of Sept. 14th. During this time we offer needed tutoring, or required interventions and remediation. Additionally, many of our school clubs meet during this time if the students are not involved in one of those other areas. All students who have under a 75 in a course are required to be at their classes remediation session. We encourage our parents/guardians to ensure their students also have strong attendance during this Flex period.

A reminder for our senior families, we will have a senior parent meeting on Tuesday of this week at 6 in our main gym. At this meeting important information will be reviewed for our students senior year. Deadlines, dates, and other important information and requirements will be shared at this meeting.

In athletics this week our Men's Soccer team is at home on both Tuesday and Thursday. On Tuesday they take on North Brunswick and on Thursday West Brunswick will be visiting with the JV starting things off at 4:30 and the Varsity at 6 on both days. Also on Thursday our Women's Tennis team is at home with a match against Whiteville that begins at 4. On Friday evening we will be recognizing last years state champion winners during our home football game against Heide Trask. Kickoff for that contest is at 7.
