Earth: Our Beautiful Home made it to Montana — the place that inspired one of the spreads.

Seeing the book in these mountains, next to the score and the pages it came from, felt quietly full-circle.

Some places become stories. Some stories find their way back to the places that shaped them.

Closing out more than two months in Taiwan this summer.

From Penghu’s wild cacti and quiet ocean days, to simple meals around Taipei, traditional instrument lessons, Tsou-style meal/way of life in Alishan, and the steady care of Pilates with my PT.

These moments — the music, the food, and the quiet routines — are what I’ll carry with me.

Grateful for this immersion season.

This summer, we finally got to experience Penghu as a family of ocean people.

We spent time in the old village of Erkan and at Neikan Beach, but what stayed with us most was the intertidal zone. Our guide gently helped us observe and learn about the creatures living there, and shared the quiet history of the Shihu stone walls.

Later, we joined a traditional 漁灶 cooking experience and tasted fresh squid prepared simply over salad. The kids and baby went kayaking for the first time, and we explored the beautiful rock formations at Tongpan island.

More than anything, this trip gave us something we had been missing — a real connection to Taiwan’s ocean and island life as a family. We had to leave a day early because of a typhoon, but we already know we’ll be back.

Penghu, you have our hearts.

We celebrated our youngest’s first birthday here in Taipei — the city where she was born.

One whole year of watching her grow, filled with so many tender moments. These days are flying by, and I’m still soaking in every bit of it.

This season always brings me back to the quiet beauty of presence.

Grateful beyond words. 🤍

A few meaningful days in Alishan learning about the Tsou tribe’s traditional way of life.

The kids loved the bamboo woodwork, making tools and baskets, and kept returning to it during free time. We also enjoyed sunny mountain hikes, creek play, meals, picking limes, lighting sparklers (仙女棒) at night, and watching traditional music and dance performances.

These immersive cultural experiences remind me why music, storytelling, and respect for nature are at the heart of Music & Tales.

A quiet moment strolling Dihua Street in Taipei - one of my favorite historic areas.

This street has a special place in my heart, especially since it inspired scenes in Lunar New Year.

These everyday moments - good food, family time, and wandering through the city in between travels - are what make our time here feel rich. Grateful for the balance between planned adventures and spontaneous joys.

Part 2 of our OCAC experience in Taipei — the sweet, the hard, and everything in between.

From my first grader’s teary goodbye to my third grader’s honest reflections, here’s what this experience was really like for both of them (and for us as parents).

Would we do it again? Yes… but timing definitely matters.

Grateful for the growth and perspective these experiences continue to bring.

I’m learning to balance my natural tendency to over-plan with the joy of slow travel and unexpected discoveries.

Sometimes the places we stumble upon end up being the most magical.

Have you ever had a beautiful experience from changing plans last minute?
