Fusion Academy in Southlake, TX opened in 2015 as Fusion’s 28th campus nationwide. Fusion Southlake is a private school where classes are one-to-one: one student and one teacher per classroom. Our Teacher/Mentors can personalize curriculum and pacing for their students’ strengths, interests, and learning style. Students may attend full-time for middle and high school or part-time with classes for credit, tutoring and mentoring, post-secondary counseling, and more. We offer rolling enrollment so students can start at any point, even mid-semester or mid-year.

In conventional schools, motivation often comes from external pressure — grades, competition, fear. But that kind of motivation is fragile. It exhausts students. 🥺

Real motivation comes from something else: knowing you have support. Knowing you can ask for help without judgment. Knowing someone is paying attention to whether you're actually succeeding.

When a student feels that, they stop pushing through obstacles and start solving them. And focus becomes possible.

When a student struggles in traditional school, the blame usually falls on the student. Lazy. Unmotivated. Not trying hard enough. 😵‍💫

But what if the problem isn't the student? What if it's that the system was never designed for how they learn? One lesson, one pace, 30 kids — that's efficient. But it's not effective for every learner.

Belonging changes everything. When a student feels seen, known, and accepted for who they are - something shifts. They show up differently. They take risks. They begin to believe there is a place for them.

For 11 years at Barnstable Academy, Jeff has been doing something rare: he's built a classroom where curiosity is contagious. Students leave his STEM classes still buzzing about experiments and discoveries.

But Jeff's impact ripples far beyond his classroom. He opens his door to colleagues. Leads professional development. Mentors teachers. Organizes the school events. And after the bell rings? He's hosting game nights, building community.

One parent said it perfectly: "For the first time, my son does not hate science. And he gives all the credit to Mr. Conklin." That's the kind of teacher who changes how students see themselves.

Our 3rd and final Lead Mentor Day of the 2025-2026 school year!

Lead Mentor Days are designed to support students' social emotional well-being, foster student-teacher relations, and provide space for student collaboration.

During this session, the Student Leadership Team presented a workshop on critical thinking: how to engage with one another, recognize patterns, and demonstrate teamwork. As an activity, the students had a list of tasks to complete together to earn points as a team.
