Consulting and coaching for service providers on Neurodiversity Affirming practices and living.

03/18/2024

So many service providers I know who have gone on to start their own businesses have a LOT to say about how we are trained in how to provide direct services - and little to nothing else.

Even if you are aware of how your skills lend to the necessary aspects of running a modern business (website design, accounting, marketing, etc.) - it can still be overwhelming to figure out what all needs to be done and how to go about doing so with your specific skill set and abilities.

Even when the service you provide to your clients includes recognizing their skills and abilities - it can still be difficult to determine your own and how that applies to running your business. It’s exhausting!

This is where I think it can be helpful to reach out to a Neurodivergent business coach, who has been there (and is technically still there, if they’re working for themselves).

Having someone else reflect what we may know but not recognize fully how to apply can be so incredibly helpful.

Making the necessary decisions to start my therapy private practice was not an easy task.

I was so used to community mental health, not-for-profit and residential treatment centers way of pushing and pressuring therapists to take on more, do more essentially accommodate everyone else’s needs but our own (while stressing we practice self-care, of course).

When my disabilities made it so I could no longer work for the group practice I was working with - I had to take time away from work entirely before I could go back to the drawing table to figure out what work would need to be for me to be able to access it.

It turns out - I had to make sure my needs were met, so I could continue to support clients in finding ways to have theirs met, as well.

It’s been 6 months since I first officially opened my private practice in September of 2023 and I could not be happier with how it has gone.

So here’s to more Neurodivergent people finding ways to make work…well, work.
