Go inside the microscopic world of a Texas red oak leaf with resident biochemist Zachary Friske at the Cambridge Letters AP Institute! In this short AP Biology video, get a live look at the leaf epidermis, including epidermal cells, cell walls, stomata, guard cells, and stomatal pores. This microscope view brings the AP Biology theme of structure and function to life by showing how plants balance photosynthesis, gas exchange, and water conservation through stomatal regulation.

For families with rising high school students interested in getting an early start on advanced science coursework, registration is now live for the AP Biology Summer 2026 Seminar!

This small-group summer bridge course is designed to help students preview the first semester of AP Biology before the school year begins. Students will gain early exposure to AP Biology content, AP-style vocabulary, data analysis, Free Response writing, exam-style reasoning, and hands-on laboratory investigation in a lower-pressure summer environment.

Course highlights include:

~ +15 hours of asynchronous classwork across 10 AP Biology lectures taught by me, Mr. Z, a Rice University-trained AP Biology teacher and biochemist.
~10 semi-weekly office hours for 3-D biological modeling, guided MC and FR question practice, and laboratory exploration.

~Weekly note and question bank handouts with graded AP-style FRQ practice.

~Attend semi-weekly office hours in person at our office near Southlake Town Square, on Zoom, and/or by recording - whatever is most convenient for your busy summer schedule!

~Hands-on lab opportunities, including DNA extraction, diffusion/osmosis, and algae photosynthesis capture.

~One AP-style final exam over covered first-semester material to simulate a CISD testing experience.

~Personalized debrief report identifying areas for reinforcement before fall CISD classes begin.

~Priority registration for AP Biology Summer Assignment Review sessions and Fall 2026 Accelerated AP Rapid Review Course.

Is your student enrolled in AP Biology next year at Carroll ISD? The CISD AP Biology Department has released a challenging and extensive Summer Assignment due August 18/19, 2025. To help your student manage this assignment confidently and begin the academic year stress-free, I have developed a comprehensive, detailed walkthrough of the AP Biology Summer Assignment. As a Texas-certified science teacher trained by Rice University in AP Biology instruction, I bring my extensive experience to help students master foundational concepts and skills required for success in AP Biology.

• Date: Thursday, July 24, 2025
• Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

• Hybrid Format: The first 30 CISD students can attend in-person; additional participants can join via Zoom or register to receive the class recording only once the session has concluded. All registrants will receive access to a session recording.

The next lecture is scheduled this Wednesday evening from 7:30pm to 9:00pm and is free to CISD students who register with CISD email addresses. Space is limited for in-person attendance, so make sure to register early if interested.
