Lou's Swimming Lessons

Hey all!

After a break from teaching swim lessons I am happy to announce that I'll be offering a few spots this summer. Sign up today!

Please note: I am using Calendly this summer to facilitate signing up for lessons. When signing up, the parent only needs to fill out all questions for the FIRST swim lesson they book. After that, they can fill out only the first two questions which are "Name" and "email" (which are starred and mandatory). Although you may book less than 5 lessons over the course of the season, 5 lessons are required to complete a swim level. Also, swimmers should take one or two lessons per week maximum to get the most out of the swim lesson program.

Below are the three options for swim lessons I will be offering:

🏊 Double, Private 30-minute Swim Lessons

Book this event for two, back-to-back 30-minute private swim lessons for two swimmers from the same household. Enjoy one-on-one instruction tailored to each swimmer's needs.

🏊‍♂️ Group, Semi-Private 45-minute Swim Lesson

Book this event for one 45-minute semi-private swim lesson for up to three swimmers sharing the same lesson time. Perfect for friends or siblings who want to learn together!

🏊‍♀️ Single, Private 30-minute Swim Lesson

Book this 30-minute private swim lesson for a single swimmer. Ideal for focused, one-on-one instruction at any swim level.

Pricing:

- Swim lessons are offered at $50 per lesson, per individual.
- A discounted price of $40 per lesson, per individual is offered to households with more than one swimmer taking lessons.
- There are no other fees charged.

Payment:
- All private lessons are to be paid in full at the conclusion of the first lesson if the individual is satisfied with the lesson.
- Payments can be made in cash, check, or online via Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal.

Lessons:
- All lessons are scheduled for either 30 or 45 minutes, depending on the type of swim lesson. This time begins at the scheduled start time.
- Lesson times may fluctuate based on the swimmer’s physical abilities, attention span, and willingness to learn during the lesson.

Preparing for Your Lesson:
- Please be ready to go in the pool 10 minutes before your scheduled lesson time so that we may start the lesson on time.
- I will arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled lesson time to set up.
- I will bring all the necessary equipment for our lesson, but ask that you provide your own towel, sunscreen, goggles, and swim suit.

Dear parents,

It is with great sadness that I announce to you all my decision to stop offering swim lessons and close Lou’s Swim Lessons for the foreseeable future. After a lot of thought, I came to the hard realization that I will not have the time to get recertified as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor in time for the summer. Furthermore, as some of you may already know, I have other obligations to take care of this summer that will prevent me from taking on the big responsibility and commitment that comes with preparing lesson plans, scheduling, and teaching swim lessons.

I promised to give you all another option for swim lessons this summer and I really can’t recommend Cornerstone Aquatics in West Hartford enough. Cornerstone offers private and group swim lesssons year round. Their swim instructors are knowledgeable and friendly (I used to work there! 👍). I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for trusting me with your backyards, your time, and most of all, with your kids. I will keep fond memories of each of my swimmers for years to come. Two years ago when I was forced to teach swim lessons privately due to the restrictions imposed on public pools and water parks during the COVID-19 pandemic, your families took a chance on me and kept my new-born business afloat by booking swim lessons and referring me to your friends and families. It wasn’t easy to start a swim school from scratch and run it from my parents’ backyard, but you made it all worth it. I made mistakes and learned a lot along the way, but this would not be a success story without your patience and willingness to work with me.

Now that the pandemic has subsided I am taking on new challenges. I have plans to go to graduate school, take my CFA exams, and move into my own place. Although I will no longer be a swim instructor, I will continue to apply the values your kids taught me through our swim lessons into my career and my life: perseverance, remember that improvement is gradual and never stagnant; patience, challenges can be frustrating at times but with a little bit of patience everything works itself out in the end; and satisfaction, celebrate your achievements and give yourself credit for your hard work. It’s been a pleasure being your swim instructor. Take care, be safe, and keep swimming!

Please fill out one of the forms by picking ***ONLY 5 slots*** The forms will be open from today, June 18, until next Friday, June 25 at 11:59 p.m. Please note that lessons will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis.

If all slots are filled up for one link it means you will have to choose another option by clicking another link for swim lessons with me this season.

Hi all,

Registration for July/August swim lessons opens this Friday, June 18 at 12:00 p.m. Please be on the lookout for a post with two links: one for private swim lessons in Southington and the other for swim lessons at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford.

Lessons are sold in packages of 5 sessions, 30 minutes each in either a semi-private (up to 3 swimmers sharing the session time) or private setting.

Lessons at Cornerstone Aquatics will be $200 per swimmer.

Lessons at your private pool in Southington will be $140 per swimmer (includes a $15 registration fee) plus a $35 travel fee charged per household.

Thank you to everyone who filled out the survey of interest for swim lessons this summer. I have received an overwhelming amount of responses! Please be patient as I work to send out proposed swim lesson schedules to everyone’s emails this week. Also, be sure to check your spam folder in case my email accidentally gets sent there. Once you receive that email from me you will be able to register for swim lessons. If your schedule has changed since you filled out the survey, please email me back with new dates and times and I will work on a new proposed schedule. As of tonight I will be closing the Google form, but I intend to open it again in July for the second half of the summer. I hope you and your families are doing well. With summer just around the corner and so much changing since last season, I wanted to check in with you all to hear about your plans for the summer. If you're thinking of registering for swim lessons this season please be sure to read this post.

In order to get a better idea of your availability for this summer, please take a moment to complete the following survey. I am expecting to have less availability this season so I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to show your interest in lessons this summer as soon as possible. Sorry for the delay but I want to thank you all so much for taking swim lessons with me this summer. Despite the circumstances, I am glad to have had the opportunity to teach lessons in a safe and fun environment. I am still not sure if I will teach lessons next summer but you can find any updates on this page. There is currently no power to filter the pool water, which continues to pose a health threat. If power returns over the weekend, lessons will resume as scheduled on Monday, August 10th. Please be on the lookout for a confirmation of this in a post here and text message to those affected. An email will be sent out tomorrow to those with affected lessons, which will include further details on how to reschedule or refund your lesson. Thank you for your understanding. Feel free to text me with any questions or concerns. I apologize for the inconvenience.
