🎸 U2 formed in Dublin, Ireland, on September 25, 1976. It was founded when 14-year-old drummer Larry Mullen Jr. posted a notice on the bulletin board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School looking for musicians to start a band.
🥁 The original lineup consisted of Mullen, Bono (Paul Hewson), The Edge (David Evans), Adam Clayton, Dik Evans (The Edge's brother), and a few other schoolmates. After a few practices, the lineup pared down to the definitive four-piece that remains today: Bono (lead vocals), The Edge (lead guitar, keyboards, vocals), Adam Clayton (bass), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums). They briefly performed under the names "Feedback" and "The Hype" before officially adopting the name U2 in 1978.
🎤 U2 is still together. The iconic rock band has maintained its original lineup—Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.—since 1976. They have been recording new music, returning to the studio to work on new projects following drummer Larry Mullen Jr.'s recovery from neck surgery.
