Turned into a beautiful day! Last night of the trip: final fire (and only the second due to drought/fire ban in SC & we don’t have fires at Harvest Host sites), a few things cleaned in the camper and a chance to organize for a quick unload tomorrow. All ready to listen to our buddies on Irish Music Cafe for a 4pm start.
Also, we finally stopped at River Raisin National Battlefield Park. There is no entry fee and it features the impact of battles during 1812 on Native Tribal communities & colonizers (British, French and newly-minted Americans). The space is a converted ice rink which lends to full size Wigwams, a lodge, canoes, and a trading post. The National Park has done a great job with hands on displays, movies and interpretations (though we did not see it, a class was witnessing what might have been their first experience near a fired musket). Everyone, whether staff or volunteer, was enthusiastic and helpful.
I love history that tries to tell the whole story. It is complex and difficult, multi-facetted and disturbing. It is fascinating.

Stopped on a Sunday for #4 Harvest Hosts on our Spring 2026 trip. By far the most attentive and welcoming hosts. Great location- easy to find and park. Food on site (very reasonable pricing). The beer selection was varied and tasty.
Bonus: great to see Axemen OH2 family!

♥️
Sometimes leadership is quiet.
It’s carrying responsibility that most people never see.
It’s making hard decisions, showing up when you’re tired, and continuing to hold space for others—even when your own tank feels low.
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on Psalm 21, and how deeply it speaks to this season.
It reminds me that the strength required to do this work isn’t something we have to create on our own.
“The king rejoices in Your strength, Lord…”
At Barnabas, we see this every day.
In the quiet moments between horse and human.
In the breakthroughs that can’t be forced.
In the way healing unfolds when the space is safe enough.
There is a strength present here that goes beyond us.
“You have granted him the desire of his heart…”
This work—providing free, trauma-informed equine-assisted services for survivors of crime, veterans, and first responders—started as a calling. And even in the challenges, there is constant evidence that it is being sustained in ways we could never orchestrate on our own.
“Surely You have granted unending blessings…”
Not because everything is easy—but because even in the hard seasons, there is provision. The right people show up. The resources come. The horses continue to do what only they can do.
And maybe the reminder I needed most:
“Through the unfailing love of the Most High, he will not be shaken.”
There are moments that feel overwhelming. There are days that stretch us. But this work—and the people behind it—are held by something steady, and that makes all the difference.
If Barnabas has impacted you in any way, thank you for being part of this community. Your support, your presence, and your belief in this work help make healing possible every single day♥️🐴♥️

Harvest Hosts stop #3 for the Spring 2026 trip to Myrtle Beach— very friendly crew serving up some very tasty beer, good atmosphere (by 176’s piano dudes) and his and hers pizza (brisket bbq & garlic white sauce with chicken). So far, we’ve had pints of the milk stout and Amy is drinking Clyde’s blood orange blast (I love a sour!) and Mark is 1605 Redding it up (an Irish red that supports local firefighters 🚒)…
Having a good night.

On the road in Virginia, saw a sign for a brewery and here we are. Lovely little place where the beer is good and the food choice is a bit bougie! Cajun cornbread and duck fat wontons and a Radler.

Harvest Hosts stop #2 for this trip! Loads of space inside and we’ve got a great locale for the night.

Went to the beach for Axemen SC1’s poker run. Great time had by all — started & ended at The Beaver Bar, Murrell's Inlet SC with stops at Sundown, The Village and Backyard… all had good service and food. It was a fantastic day for a ride, a great cause (The Barnabas Horse Foundation) and friends who have become family.

First stop thanks to Harvest Hosts and The Bucket! Walked in and ordered tastes of whatever local beer Nicole had on draft. Had a new-to-us Bucketizer and planning on trying a few more options. Food, beer and service has been great.
