October is Blindness Awareness Month!

Here at Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind & Visually Impaired, we have the privilege of working with people who are blind and visually impaired every day.

This month is an opportunity to raise awareness, build understanding, and celebrate the independence and accomplishments of people in the blind community.

We’re proud to be part of a community that supports one another, shares resources, breaks down barriers, and reminds the world that blindness does not define a person’s possibilities.

Today we had a great time at Ford’s Garage! The staff was absolutely amazing and made us feel so welcome.

October is Blindness Awareness Month, and sometimes awareness is simply about getting out into the community and showing people how we do it! Blind people are out here eating, laughing, socializing, enjoying ourselves, and living life just like everyone else.

Awareness doesn’t always have to come from a presentation or a workshop. Sometimes it happens over burgers, fries, good conversation, and a table full of laughter! ❤️

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Ford’s Garage for making our outing such a great experience!

A few more moments from Wednesday’s special event at Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind & Visually Impaired!

We were proud to partner with ACB to distribute Ray-Ban Meta glasses to blind and visually impaired veterans. It was wonderful seeing everyone come together, learning about the technology, and watching our veterans experience their new glasses.

Thank you again to ACB and everyone who helped make this event possible. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it.

Yesterday was a great day at GDABVI!

Our agency partnered with the American Council of the Blind (ACB) to provide Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses to blind and visually impaired veterans. This technology can help increase independence by assisting with everyday tasks and providing access to information in new ways.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible for our veterans!

Today was a fun day at the Agency! We enjoyed karaoke, lots of laughs, and great fellowship together.

We also took time to recognize Jordan Miles for successfully completing his job experience with us. Congratulations, Jordan! We are proud of you and wish you nothing but success in whatever comes next! 🎉

GDABVI was happy to attend the Low Vision Expo today at Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills!

It was a great opportunity to connect with organizations, learn about resources and adaptive technology, and share information about the services GDABVI provides to people who are blind and visually impaired.

Thank you to Leader Dogs for the Blind and the Rochester Hills Public Library for bringing everyone together for a day of information, resources, and connection.
