Why the Time Is Now
Waiting may feel safer — but it’s actually far more expensive.
Two state funding changes are coming:
• Finalized change: A new cap on reimbursed construction costs could shift $50+ million from the state to local taxpayers if we delay. This would have the impact of reducing our standard state reimbursement by approximately 25%. School district applications received by the state prior to June 30th avoid this new reimbursement cap.
• Proposed change: Legislators are discussing proposed legislation that the current 15% preschool reimbursement (about $34 million) apply only to dedicated preschool spaces, not the entire project. In Region 15, preschool is funded by tuition, not taxes. That 15% is essentially free state money that lowers local taxes.
If we wait:
Same schools. Same needs.
As much as $85–90 million more paid locally.
Meanwhile, aging buildings continue to worsen — and repairs only get more expensive, with less state help.
✅ Acting now protects taxpayers
✅ Brings our state tax dollars back home
✅ Is the more responsible path — especially for those on fixed incomes
Voting no doesn’t save money. It costs more, possibly double.
