Excited to share some recent experiences supporting our schools! 🌟 Last week, I had the opportunity to visit Colorado for a School Board Partners program, where I gained valuable insights into innovative education strategies and ways to strengthen our schools.

Yesterday, I participated in Day on the Hill through MASC, where a few of our members met with Senator Fattman and Representative Marsi. We discussed important topics affecting our district, including Chapter 70 funding, special education, mental health, and receivership, and were grateful for a behind-the-scenes tour of the State House to see policymaking in action.

Grateful for these experiences and the chance to bring new ideas and perspectives back to our district! 💡📚

On January 8th Vice Chair Carla, Norma, and I had the honor of attending the MSAA award presentation recognizing our middle school principal, Sarah Houle, as Principal of the Year! This is a tremendous achievement, not just for Sarah, but for our entire community. Her leadership, dedication, and vision continue to make a positive impact on our students and schools, and we are so proud to celebrate her accomplishments. 🎉📚

We also had the pleasure of visiting the Bridge of Faith Youth Center during their community open house today. I was truly impressed by everything they’ve accomplished for the youth in our community and inspired by their plans for future growth. Their commitment to providing safe, engaging, and meaningful opportunities for our young people is making a real difference. 💛

2 hour delay this morning

A delayed post but from November 12-November 14 I was able to attend the MASC conference in Hyannis Ma. This was my second year attending and it’s such an amazing experience to continue to learn how to govern and connect with other members across the state. I am thankful MASC covered the cost of 3 of our members and we planned for 6 to go. Unfortunately 2 were no longer able to make it but we are making progress in the right direction. I hope our full committee is able to be in attendance next year.

Vice Chair Carla and I were so excited to have been able to attend the grand opening of the Sensory Immersion Room at the Middle/High School. It’s such an honor to see that we are the first district in the state to have an opportunity like this and I can’t wait for Dr. Ward to attend our next meeting in November to further educate us on the CARES program

So excited to share the progress the school committee is making! At our Tuesday night meeting we were able to bring back student reps! Thank you to both Yesenia and Hayley for coming and sharing your updates. We also have our first official subcommittee elected. Congrats to Norma, Martena, and Stephanie - the members of our policy subcommittee.

On Thursday our Vice Chair Carla Delacruz Davila was nominated by Representative Marsi and Senator Fattman for the Latino Excellance on the Hill Award! Members Torres and Tyznik as well as DESE representative Juan Rodriguez were in attendance to show support. Carla is an amazing leader in our community and we are honored to have her on our school board. The recognition of our Vice Chair also represents the hard work we have all been putting in to work together with our members, town council, and community to make a change.

Committee Members Torres and Tyznik and I went to the Southbridge High Football game on Friday! It was great to see the support from the community coming out and watching the team and cheering them on!

Also want to give a shout out to the band and cheerleaders for also doing an amazing job!

Committee member Maria Torres and I went to the Eastford Road Snow Cone event last night! It was amazing to see the turn out and everyone so enthusiastic.

School Committee member Norma Tyznik and I joined the seniors for the annual Senior Sunrise. They had some breakfast, played some music and games and had a great time. It’s refreshing to see the school spirit and support of the staff

Thank you to our town manager John Jovan for coming last night to provide us a training on Roberts Rules with the help of our DESE liaison Juan. The training was not recorded but was followed by our regularly scheduled meeting at 7.
