The Fay Alumni Community Continues to Connect Across the World!🌎 ✈️
Nothing brings us more joy than reconnecting with our global Fay family! Head of School, Susanna Waters and members of the Advancement Office just wrapped up an extraordinary trip to Korea and China, and our hearts (and photo albums!) are completely full.
From sharing stories over incredible meals to hearing about the amazing things our alumni are doing across the world, these moments remind us that no matter how many miles lie between us, the Fay bond remains as strong as ever.

A time capsule from 1976! Fifty years ago, Alex Suárez ’81 was a fourth grader at Fay School when his teacher, Sara Stockwell, gave a unique history assignment: write a letter to your future self about General Henry Knox’s revolutionary march through Southborough.

Alex recently opened that very letter, sealed with a 13-cent stamp and marked with a special commemorative cancellation. For Alex, now retired and living in Texas, the letter delivered more than just a piece of history—it reconnected him with his nine-year-old self and his fond, vivid memories of boarding at Fay. History doesn’t repeat itself, but it rhymes. As America marks its 250th anniversary, Ambassador David McKean ’72 is offering a timely perspective on the "American experiment" in his new book, The Flag Was Still There, co-written with M. Todd Bennett.

Through the lens of America’s five major jubilee celebrations—from 1776 to 1976—McKean explores how the nation has continually navigated innovation, intense presidential politics, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. Despite current divisions, McKean remains optimistic about the long run, noting that our democracy remains a powerful, evolving aspiration.

When Christian Papadellis '10 first cracked open The Odyssey as a Fay ninth grader, he was just a teenager enjoying the monsters and mythology of Homer’s epic. Now, as an English teacher at Rumsey Hall, Christian is teaching The Odyssey to the next generation, his own ninth grade students. “I definitely brought The Odyssey here because I read it at Fay, and it’s one of my all-time favorites.” It’s a full-circle moment, and just one of the ways that Christian’s Fay experience continues to echo through his life today. Chasing the Shot: From Air Force One and President Obama to The Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga, photographer Jamie Soja ’95 is in the business of capturing raw, high-stakes moments. Storytelling through a lens requires two things: flexibility and creativity. Whether he’s navigating tight concert timelines or pivoting when his celebrity subject sleeps through a scheduled portrait session, Jamie knows how to think on his feet. For Jamie, a truly great photograph has to make you feel engaged, "as if you are really experiencing the moment yourself." Read more at fayschool.org/magazine

Once a Fay athlete, always a Fay athlete! In celebration of Women’s History Month this past spring, Lower School students welcomed back nine incredible alumnae who shared their inspiring athletic journeys. Five alumni returned to campus for a live panel, including student-athletes from Boston College and Holy Cross, while others sent inspiring video messages from Harvard, the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, and beyond! From overcoming struggles on the field to winning national championships, these powerhouse women reflected on how Fay helped shape their competitive spirit. Read more at fayschool.org/magazine

Short Cut: For filmmaker Seigo Tôno ’83, a childhood obsession with American cinema blossomed into a lifelong career championing the art of the short film. After discovering how movies could serve as a powerful window into different cultures during his time at Fay, Seigo eventually became the Festival Director of Short Shorts Film Festival & ASIA. Under his leadership, the festival has become an official qualifying event for the Academy Awards, drawing thousands of international entries each year. For Seigo, the beauty of a short film lies in its universal reach. "We understand the cultural differences, but the core message is universal," he says. Read more at fayschool.org/magazine

Join us in congratulating Jimmy Zhou ’13 and his bride, Gloria, who celebrated their wedding at the breathtaking Villa di Geggiano in Tuscany this summer!

Representing the Fay family were classmate Biggy Nandabhiwat and faculty member Amy Mohn. In true Fay fashion—where faculty-student bonds can last a lifetime—Amy was touched to find her official dinner place card labeled "American Mom." ❤️
