There's a stretch of evening where the light gets low and the water goes still enough to hear your own oars, if you had oars. Most nights we're the only ones out there.

We started running private charters because people kept asking for a version of camp that didn't need a life jacket in kid sizes. Two to three hours out, usually timed to catch the sun going down, though the hour is yours to pick. Just the boat and whoever's driving it. No set route, no crowd, nowhere you have to be by a certain time except back at the dock eventually.

All ages welcome. Bring whoever you want out there with you.

A season's worth of kids getting braver by the week. That's the part that gets me every year, watching the ones who start out unsure end up leading the way for the new campers by the end.

Thank you to every explorer and every family who spent part of their summer with us on the water.

Four open hands, and whatever the shore and water decided to give up that morning. Sea glass mostly, worn soft at the edges, plus a few shell pieces nobody wanted to put back down.

This is the kind of find that stops a whole group mid-walk. Everyone crowds in to see what everyone else has got, comparing colors, trading pieces, arguing a little about whose is better.

It's been a full season of mornings like this one, and it's almost over. A few more days left before this year's camp wraps for good.

Some days you want someone showing you where to go. Other days you just want the water and your own sense of direction.

That's what the rentals are for. Grab a single or tandem kayak, or a paddleboard if that's more your speed, and head out whenever you're ready. Two hours, a half day, or the whole day, whatever the afternoon calls for. If getting the boats to you is the hard part, we handle that too. Just tell us where.

Nobody tells you where to go out there. That's kind of the point.

Most of what happens out here never makes it to Instagram in time to mean anything. The tide that shifted mid trip. The morning an osprey showed up right over the marsh. The days that end up being someone's favorite memory of the summer.

There's more than one way to be out here in September.

Some people want a guide who knows where the current runs easy, someone who can put a rod in your hand or point out what's moving through the marsh. That's the Explorer Experience, a private tour, two and a half to three hours, all gear included, built for any age.

A lot of people assume the water stops being ours to use once camp ends.

It doesn't. The Explorer Experience runs the same trip, structured the same way, just open to any age. Two and a half to three hours out on the bay, gear included, whoever wants to come along. We've had grandparents in the kayak next to a six-year-old, first-time paddlers next to people who've done this for years.
