Thinking before you post matters.

Today, students in grades 5–12 heard from Sara Rogers of KSB School Law about what it means to be a responsible digital citizen.

Through age-appropriate examples and real-life cases, students learned about online safety, cyberbullying, privacy, social media, artificial intelligence and how digital choices can have real-world consequences.

A simple reminder from the day: Pause. Think. Be kind. Be smart online.

A big thank you to Bret Hayworth and KWIT/KOJI Siouxland Public Media for taking the time to visit with us about South Sioux City Schools’ facility needs and the upcoming bond proposal. Thank you to the South Sioux City Optimist Club for giving Athletic Director Jeff Squier the opportunity to share more about the district’s work to strengthen youth athletics and build greater alignment across our programs.

That work includes looking at how we develop student-athletes from the youth level through high school, with an emphasis on consistency, long-term development and providing strong opportunities for all students.

We appreciate the opportunity to share more about the direction of our athletic programs and the work underway.

Jeff Squier, Athletic Director for the South Sioux Schools, spoke to us this week about the district’s exploration and commitment to developing youth athletic programs over all areas.

🎟️ One Hour Out of the Coop! 🐔

Remember those Golden Tickets hidden in the balloons at our All-Staff Opening on August 10? A few lucky staff members won “One Hour Out of the Coop” — an hour away from their regular duties while Superintendent Dr. Rony Ortega steps in and takes their place.

This morning, Maria Quintana cashed in her Golden Ticket at South Sioux City High School!

Dr. Ortega started the morning helping in the busy high school office, where the phones are ringing, families are checking in, staff members need assistance and the day gets moving quickly. Then he headed to Ms. Figueroa’s Spanish classroom, where Maria regularly provides support during first period.

Along the way, Dr. Ortega got a firsthand look at just how much goes into Maria’s morning — and the important role our paraprofessionals and support staff play in keeping our schools running and helping students succeed.

He also gave a shout-out to Ms. Figueroa for the strong routines, focused students and creative learning happening in her classroom.

Golden Ticket redeemed. One hour out of the coop delivered. ✅
