"Look on Amazon and you'll find dozens of variations of Sunzi's classic text on military strategy. Why in the world did we pick this title for the first book ever published by Long River Press more than twenty years ago? First was the minimalist approach. Pure text with minimal annotation; no how to adapt The Art of War to the corporate boardroom or how to use it to improve your golf swing. Second was the translator, the late Lin Wusun, who had been working on this particular translation for some time and whose work had always been held in high esteem by scholars inside and outside China. I loved our minimalist cover treatment which was at the core of the Long River Press publishing ethos, as well as the unusual 6x7 hardcover trim size. We sent a copy to Larry Ellison. Never sure if he got it, though."
