"Hey There, I'm Ms. Alvarez and I am happy to join you all from sunny California. I have been in education for a decade now and have loved every moment of it. I will be dropping down plenty of knowledge on Social Studies for our students to pick up. When I am not living it up in the classroom, I enjoy skating, hiking, and hanging with my loved ones. The Track & Field team is wrapping up their fundraiser September 6th and is looking for your support in raising money for State Championship jackets for all of our athletes. Here are some of the highlights from the season:
- 22 School Records broken throughout the season, 1 State Record broken.

- Girls team went 82-0 against D3 schools and 107-9 against all divisions.

- Boys team went 80-1 against D3 schools and 106-8 against all divisions.

- Both Girls and Boys won the SVL-B Championships and the State DIII Championship.

New (to WRVHS) staff hightlight:

Mindi Wimett joins WRVHS as our new Community Based Learning Coordinator. A few words from Mindi:

"I came to South Royalton School after graduating from UVM in 2003. I taught elementary, middle, and high school students in SoRo and I was the middle school math teacher at White River Valley Middle School for the last eight years.

I am an avid Red Sox fan. My husband and I have visited 27 MLB ballparks together. I also enjoy reading, traveling, hiking, and snowboarding. I live in South Royalton with my family and kitty. I am excited to facilitate stronger bonds between high school students and their local community through work-based placements and community service."

New staff highlight:

Lisanne Velez has been teaching for over 18 years, in high schools from Atlanta, GA to Burlington, VT. She’s taught Biology & English, and after a brief time last spring teaching Physics at WRVHS, is now excited to return to teach Social Studies full time. After growing up in NH in a family of teachers and going to high school at Hanover High, she earned her BA degree in Biology & English at Williams College in MA and earned her Masters degree in Curriculum & Instruction at UVM. She loves learning, teaching, singing & theater, art, books, and movies. She also loves spending time with her extended family, visiting her pirate daughter at college in Rhode Island, and having fun with her fifth grade son and partner Scott. She is really excited to come back to work with WRVHS students and to be a part of the WRVHS community. She can be reached at [email protected].
