Word of the Day: كُسوف (kusūf)

كُسوف means eclipse and is commonly used for a solar eclipse. ☀️

☀️ كُسوف الشَّمْس = solar eclipse
🌙 خُسوف القَمَر = lunar eclipse

⚽ Word of the Day: مُدَرِّب (mudarrib)

مُدَرِّب means coach or trainer.

👥 Plural: مُدَرِّبون (mudarribūn)

💡 It comes from the verb دَرَّبَ (darraba) = to train.

هٰذَا مُدَرِّبٌ مَاهِرٌ.
hādhā mudarribun māhirun
= This is a skilled coach.

The word "sugar" is Arabic — sukkar. So is "cotton" — qutn. So is "sofa" — suffa. Arab merchants carried these goods and their Arabic names across continents. The English language absorbed them without ever crediting the source.
