Our middle school students continue to impress us with their dedication and talent! Working collaboratively and taking the lead on this vision, students created a beautiful mural that will brighten our school for years to come.

Our students continue to amaze us with their creativity and ability to make our school a welcoming and inspiring place for everyone. Thank you to our student artists- Savannah Makely, Rayna Turk, Melissa Gunning, Eve Jean-Peirre, Madison Sanchez, Mya Cabrera- and to Mrs. Santana for helping bring this project to life!

Roosevelt School proudly celebrated its 2026 Day of Service with the theme "Helping Others." Throughout the day, students participated in meaningful activities designed to teach the importance of service, kindness, and community involvement while making a positive impact on those around them.

Each grade level focused on a specific area of service:

Kindergarten: Our Community Workers
Grade 1: The Elderly
Grade 2: The Environment
Grade 3: Animals
Grade 4: School and Local Community

Students engaged in a variety of hands-on learning experiences connected to their grade-level focus. Activities included creating heartfelt thank-you cards for community workers and local first responders, painting flower ornaments for residents of the Senior Center, and visiting the Roosevelt Annex to read stories to our preschool students. These experiences provided opportunities for students to learn about the needs of others while demonstrating compassion, empathy, and gratitude.

The day culminated in a schoolwide Color Run, which brought together students, staff, and families in support of a worthy cause. Through their fundraising efforts, the Roosevelt community raised more than $4,000 for The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Online Toy Drive. The Color Run served as a celebration of the day's work and a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference.

The 2026 Day of Service was an inspiring demonstration of Roosevelt Elementary School’s commitment to developing caring, responsible citizens. Through service-learning activities and community engagement, students not only learned about the importance of helping others but also put those values into action. The day reinforced the ideals of compassion, generosity, and civic responsibility that will continue to guide our students both in and out of the classroom.

Middle school students participated in Day of Service on Friday, May 29th. We had such a successful day at the car wash with students and staff going to work to support Hope for Paws Humane Society. Included some fun fundraisers as well, our volleyball tournament and color run were exciting events for our kids to raise money as well.

Thank you so much to the South Plainfield Community for supporting our efforts, visiting our carwash, and donating so many needed pet supplies. Final count is not in, but we raised over $4000 for the shelter! Amazing day all around.

On Wednesday, May 27 2026, Brody, our district’s emotional support and certified therapy dog, visited Roosevelt School for a special meet-and-greet. This introductory visit allowed students to see Brody with his handler Roosevelt's own Mrs. Simpson.

This visit marks the beginning of an exciting program for our school community, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact Brody will have on our students.

Highlight: Girls in STEM

Teaching girls about STEM in middle school provides an opportunity to help build confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills at an early age. Middle school is often the time when students begin deciding what subjects they enjoy and what careers they may want in the future. Encouraging students to participate in science, technology, engineering, and math projects shows them that they belong in these fields and can succeed in them!

Recently, STEM club members explored the concept of hydraulics and built a bridge prototype. Two students, Nadia and Naila Quow, showed great curiosity and enthusiasm while learning about how hydraulics work. Their 8th Grade STEM teacher, Mrs. White, provided additional materials and encouraged them to expand their ideas by designing machines that used hydraulic systems. After individually researching and brainstorming, Naila created a crane capable of lifting heavy metal objects, and Nadia designed a claw machine used to retrieve prizes. Both projects successfully demonstrated the students’ understanding and application of hydraulic principles as well as critical thinking skills that are valuable in any career path. So proud of these girls and their BRIGHT future!

As Memorial Day approaches, our middle school community came together to create a Poppy Field in honor of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Each poppy was designed by students, writing messages of gratitude and remembrance on the back of their flowers. These poppies serve as a powerful reminder of the courage, service, and sacrifice of our fallen soldiers. We hope you are able to stop by the middle school to see this community project this weekend.

The music department at Roosevelt Elementary performed a dozen songs, from our school theme song "We are Roosevelt's Children" to modern hits, at the annual spring concert on May 18th. Their hard work and dedication to their music instruction has paid off in so many wonderful ways.
