Does your preschooler want to play with other children, but struggle when it’s time to share, take turns, or follow someone else’s idea?

Insight Collective’s PEERS for Preschoolers group helps children ages 4 to 6 practice joining play, sharing, taking turns, and building friendships. Sessions include puppet demonstrations, role play, and guided practice with other children.

Parents attend weekly sessions too, learning practical ways to support those skills during playdates, at preschool, and at home.

Some kids work twice as hard as everyone else just to get through a regular school day.

They may be bright, curious, and capable, but something isn't clicking. Homework takes hours. Mornings are exhausting. Emotions run high. Parents are left wondering whether it's ADHD, anxiety, a learning difference, giftedness, or something else entirely.

What happens when symptoms are real, but medical testing doesn’t provide a clear explanation?

This week, our graduate students had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Kelsey Hawthorne about Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a condition involving genuine neurological symptoms that occur without structural damage to the nervous system.

The discussion highlighted the complex relationship between the brain and body and the importance of thoughtful, interdisciplinary care.

Thank you to Dr. Hawthorne for sharing her expertise and clinical insights with our trainees.

We were also delighted to welcome back Dr. Harrell, former Insight Collective Postdoctoral Fellow and Clinician, who joined the presentation as a mentor.

Experiences like these help prepare future clinicians to approach complex presentations with curiosity, compassion, and clinical rigor.

Insight Collective Academy is an afterschool program for SPUSD students going into grades 2-5. It is designed for bright, complex learners who benefit from individualized support, small class sizes, executive functioning support, and a learning environment that helps them build confidence alongside academic skills.
