Attend the weeks you want! From painting and puppet making to sculpture and everything in between. No experience necessary. We work individually with each student at their level to help them achieve their best work. Amazing instructors and a super fun environment.

STOP MOTION BUILDING BLOCKS! / JUNE 8 - 12
Learn the essential concepts of stop motion animation—from timing to squash and stretch and more. If you are passionate about stop-motion and want to strengthen your skills, this week is for you!

AWESOME ANIMAL TOWN / JUNE 15 - 19
This week we’ll create original animal characters and collaborate to create a miniature town that has a grocery store, playground, library and more. Is the sloth the school principal? Is the lion the librarian? Anything is possible in our animal town!

SOLD OUT-- MAKE YOUR OWN STUFFIE / JUNE 22 - 26
This week we'll design characters or animals and turn them into real, huggable stuffed animals! Learn basic sewing skills or build on the skills you have.

CLAYMATION SENSATION! / JULY 6 - 10
A jam-packed week of animated fun! We will make clay character puppets, create sets, shoot films, and bring our ideas to life! Taking last summer's class is not a prerequisite but returning students will build on their skills from last time! We will make clay character puppets, create sets, shoot films, and bring our ideas to life! We’ll wrap it up with the 3rd Art/Work/Place Claymation Fest!

COMICS & PICTURE BOOKS : THE ART OF VISUAL STORYTELLING / JULY 13 - 17
We will work on original single page comics or short picture books. Develop characters, consider composition, and create short stories. Will your story be about a weird wizard? A one-eyed ocelot? A misunderstood mouse? Strong illustrations create compelling stories!

MAKE YOUR MINI ME! / JULY 20 - 24
Express who you are and want to be! Artists will make full body mini me self-portraits using paper collage. LARGE PAPER DOLLS! Fashion design! Costume design! We will add accessories and fantastical elements from backpacks to jetpacks, from crazy hats to imaginary friends and so much more.

CARDBOARD CARNIVAL! / JULY 27 - 31
We’ll make sculptural games that are as much art pieces as they are fun to play with! The possibilities are endless, from an octopus ring toss to a mini golf monster, let your mind run wild! We will end the week by playing the games together!

STOP MOTION COMMOTION! / AUGUST 3 - 7
There are so many different types of stop-motion animation beyond claymation! This week we will be exploring other types of stop-motion including cut-paper puppet animation and Lego animation! We’ll wrap it up with the 2nd art/work/place Animation Fest of the summer!

DESIGN YOUR OWN CHARACTERS! / JUNE 4 & 5
Character design is crucial to comics, books, games or animation. During this mini-intensive, students will invent characters with unique personalities, behaviors and backstories. They will create illustrations of their characters with unique, recognizable features, silhouettes and expressive poses! This is perfect for aspiring animators, illustrators, and visual storytellers! This two day project would be a great companion to our “Comics! Picture Books! The Art of Visual Storytelling” week!

IMAGINATIVE INVENTIONS! / AUGUST 10 & 11
From concept to illustration to cardboard prototype, you will conceive original inventions! From practical to fantastical, what product do you wish existed?

art/work/place is a unique environment. All of the instructors are working artists and bring their expertise and passions to their students. Students are introduced to a wide range of media, styles, and inspirations. Instead of the expectation for students to have the same end product, individuality and creativity are encouraged in every piece.

We hope you’re having a fabulous holiday break! Youth 1 students made ornaments for tiny trees in the classroom out of felt and buttons and pompoms! Merry Christmas to those that celebrate!

Radial symmetry holiday cards! Inspired by the radial symmetry of snowflakes, students made cards with their radial designs.
Radial Symmetry is an example of balance. Balance is one of the principles of design along with movement, contrast, proportion, variety, space, unity, emphasis, and repetition. Balance is a tool used to distribute visual weight and stability in a composition.

These Youth 1 self portraits are like giant paper dolls with Velcro to change out clothing of their design. So much fun!

Self-portraits are the best way to learn how to draw a face—you always have your own face handy! Students learned to mix their own skin tones—experimenting with mixing complementary colors to make different shades of brown and then adjusting them to match their personal complexion.

One Youth Two lesson introduces students to art and mythical creatures from around the world. Camila chose to make a piece depicting an Irish mythical creature, the Púca. The Púca is phantom fairy creature who can shapeshift.

Our Youth Lesson Two curriculum (ages 9+) circulates through five lesson types. Each focuses on a specific aspect of fine art training to build skills and encourage creativity. EXPLORE lessons introduce students to different cultures and movements throughout art history. Students recreate artworks to learn directly from the masters and have creative freedom to add their own taste, sense of humor, and personal style.

The still life is an important practice for artists of all ages to learn how to draw what they see. Students learn how to show light, shadow, and to imply depth, form, and texture. This Youth 2 student chose an analogous color scheme for their piece, creating a sense of cohesion and unity. The spotlight creates a graphic negative space around the objects bringing all the more attention to them.

Our Youth Lesson Two curriculum (ages 9+) circulates through five lesson types. Each focuses on a specific aspect of fine art training to build skills and encourage creativity. Through OBSERVE projects, students strengthen the relationship between what their eye sees and how their hand moves often through the use of still life.

Youth One students in Ms. Miki’s Monday classes made hand sewn ornaments! A festive way to learn a new skill! The concentration students exhibited when zoned in on sewing was inspiring. What a treasure to have for years to come.

One Youth 2 assignment introduces students to Cubism and has them break apart a still life into many sections. Jayden was inspired to make his piece multi media, using paint, collage, and pencil in different sections. The result is fragmented in a cubist-like way.

Our Youth Lesson Two curriculum (ages 9+) circulates through five lesson types. Each focuses on a specific aspect of fine art training to build skills and encourage creativity. STUDY lessons develop young artists’ understanding of the elements of art and principles of design and allow for skill building exercises and experimentation before final pieces. Through CREATE projects, students take what they learned in STUDY lessons and apply it to art pieces that spring from their own interests.
