Rethinking Education
Most of us reading this went to school, and so we had years and years of subconscious programming about the role of play in education. Most of the school day was spent in the classroom where we did the serious stuff, the learning with the teacher, the stuff the teacher got paid for. We were only allowed outside to play for a break from the serious stuff. The role of a teacher on duty at play time was merely as a safety warden.
So our own experience brainwashed us into believing play wasn't learning, and that is why so many teachers and parents are struggling with making the big shift to valuing the genius of play as a vehicle for learning and unfolding intelligence. Reimagining education asks us to make that seismic shift in our beliefs around learning, education and play.
