We are so proud of our student Elijah "EJ" Novak, who is currently interning in Kyiv through ImpactUA, a program co-sponsored by Brave Generations and Razom for Ukraine. The program places college students with nonprofit organizations across Ukraine. Working with the Zaporuka Charitable Foundation, EJ supports fundraising efforts while volunteering with the organization's Dacha Family Home, which provides free housing for families whose children are receiving life-saving medical treatment. Honors Student Supports Communities in Ukraine Through International Internship This summer, Elijah "EJ" Novak, a double major in Diplomacy International Relations and History with a concentration in Eastern European Studies, is interning in Ukraine through ImpactUA.

We as a department are proud to be involved in these outreach initiatives with Ukrainian universities.

On Saturday, August 8, 2 pm - 4 pm, Prof. Maxim Matusevich will be introducing his new book "Six Trains of No Return" (Academic Studies Press, 2026) at Montclair Book Center. The reading is free and open to the public. Registration link in the first comment box.

Professor Thomas Rzeznik's new book is getting a well-deserved recognition. History Department proud!

For more than 160 years, St. Vincent's Hospital stood as a cornerstone of healthcare in New York City, even earning a reputation for treating anyone who walked through its doors, regardless of income, background, or faith.

Founded in 1849 in the aftermath of a deadly cholera epidemic, the hospital became a pioneer in medicine while responding to some of the city's darkest moments. Although St. Vincent's closed its doors in 2010, its legacy lives on.

A newly published book, A Monument of Charity: St. Vincent's Hospital and Catholic Healthcare in New York City, tells the remarkable story of the Sisters of Charity, whose faith and dedication helped shape one of New York's most important Catholic hospitals and left a lasting mark on American healthcare:

Earlier today, Dr. Thomas Rzeznik had the opportunity to talk at the New York Public Library-Jefferson Market branch about his new book, "A Monument of Charity: St. Vincent's Hospital and Catholic Health Care in New York City." The library is located in Greenwich Village, just a couple blocks from the former hospital's location.

Andrew Misura, a former student and presently Seton Hall University’s Director of Media and Marketing Strategy (and a close friend of the department) is currently in Ukraine. A few days ago Andrew was in Kyiv, where he met with our longtime partners and friends, professors Olha Tarasenko and Vitaliy Andreev.
