Elementary Lead Teacher Samy Fantacone and Director of Curriculum Kim Charles attended the Bank Street College of Education annual Summer Math Conference, “Math Connections: Making Meaning Together.” An amazing opportunity to collaborate with educators from across the country in mathematics. Samy and Kim are excited to bring back all they learned to our Weekday School.

Last week, Bank Street hosted our fourth annual Summer Math Conference, “Math Connections: Making Meaning Together.” The event brought together math educators, coaches, and leaders from across the country to engage in mathematics together and explore the connections within mathematics content, among our mathematics communities, and across mathematical identities.

Over the course of two days and more than 20 workshops, participants embraced a learner’s stance. One educator reflected, “I used to think I wasn't qualified to talk about or teach mathematics because of my lack of a math background, but now I know that is not true. Everyone can be a math person.” Another participant shared, “I used to think that I could not enjoy math in a fun and engaging way, but now I know I can, and bring that excitement back to my students using all the fun games I learned today.”

We’re excited to continue this work with our community of math educators, co-creating inclusive, affirming learning environments for all.

Weekday School is an independent, progressive Pre-K through 5th grade school in South Orange. No rigid mold, just what emerges from a child's own curiosity. ✨ Celebrating the next generation of entrepreneurs 💼🌟⁠ ⁠ The Weekday School Marketplace ribbon cutting showcased students transforming their ideas into real businesses 🛍️⁠ ⁠ From creating business plans and making receipts to learning how to give change and interact with customers, these young entrepreneurs gained hands-on experience building their own small businesses. Seeing their products come to life and watching their confidence grow was truly inspiring 👏⁠ ⁠ The Weekday School, located at 111 Irvington Ave, is a progressive learning community that emphasizes learning by doing, creativity, collaboration, and social responsibility. Students are encouraged to think critically, engage in inquiry-based learning, and grow as thoughtful, active members of their community.⁠ ⁠ Thank you to everyone who came out to support the students, including Mayor Sheena Collum, Councilwoman Hannah Zollman, and Councilwoman Patricia Canning for celebrating this special moment.⁠ ⁠ A big congratulations to all the young business owners 🏆✨
