Outside the hospital, Riley enjoys life on the water whether he’s fishing from his boat or relaxing at the sandbar🛥🏖🌊 Most importantly, he loves spending time with his wife, son, their two doodles👨‍👩‍👦💕🐾

🌟 Resident Spotlight: Meet Riley Marlar, DO!

Outside the hospital, Riley enjoys life on the water—whether he’s fishing from his boat or relaxing at the sandbar. Most importantly, he loves spending time with his wife, Ellison Marlar, DO, their 10-month-old son, Cash, and their two doodles, Lucy and Dixie.

This past weekend, one of our residents completed two days of intensive training in upper-extremity nerve surgery at the Duke Nerve Center! 🖐️📚

🌟 RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT 🌟

✨ Meet Dr. Charlie Messa, our PGY-2 Larkin Plastic Surgery Resident!

Born and raised in South Florida🌅, Charlie moved to Philadelphia to pursue his undergraduate studies at Ursinus College. After graduation, he spent time working in the music industry in New York City before transitioning to medicine and research. Prior to medical school, he completed a clinical research fellowship with the University of Pennsylvania Division of Plastic Surgery as a Harrison Scholar.

Now back home in Miam🏖i, Charlie is excited to continue his surgical training and grow within the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

His current clinical interests include craniofacial surgery, aesthetic surgery, and abdominal wall reconstruction. He is particularly drawn to the artistry and versatility of plastic surgery and values the opportunity to integrate clinical research and innovation with patient care. Throughout residency, he looks forward to continuing his development as both a surgeon and physician-scientist.

Outside the hospital, Charlie enjoys spending time with family, going to concerts, traveling, and trying new restaurants😎

🥁 Fun fact: Music has always been a big part of Charlie’s life. He grew up playing the drums and even played in a band in high school!

Meet Dr. Enaiya Awan, PGY-2 Plastic Surgery Resident!

🗽 Born and raised in New York, enaiya_j is grateful to continue her surgical training here in Miami🏖

Her current interests in plastic surgery include facial trauma, hand surgery, and burn reconstruction. She especially values the diversity of the specialty and looks forward to continuing to explore its many facets throughout residency.

Outside the hospital, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and working with her hands—whether that means painting, playing guitar, or tinkering with cars. 🎨🎸🚗

🐾 Fun fact: She rescued her dog while in medical school, and he has been by her side ever since!💙

🌟 PGY-1 Spotlight | Larkin Plastic Surgery Residency

Please join us in welcoming our new PGY-1 resident, Dr. Roland Assaf! 👏 Roland Assaf, MD grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains, an upbringing that inspired his lifelong love of the outdoors. After graduating from the American University of Beirut (AUB), he moved to Boston, where he joined the Global Smile Foundation There, he contributed to cleft lip and palate research and participated in sustainable global health programs providing comprehensive cleft care to underserved communities.

Fluent in Arabic, French, and English, Roland is now beginning an exciting new chapter in Miami 🌅
As he starts his surgical residency, he looks forward to learning Spanish and embracing the city's vibrant Latin culture.

Outside of medicine, you'll find him on the water, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and mentoring aspiring medical students.

We're thrilled to welcome Dr. Assaf to the Larkin Community Hospital Plastic Surgery team and can't wait to see all he accomplishes throughout his residency!

This weekend, our residents, faculty, families, and friends gathered under a beautiful Miami sunset to celebrate the Class of 2026.

It was a special evening reflecting on the memories, friendships, and accomplishments that define residency, while honoring our graduating chief residents and recognizing several residents for their outstanding achievements.
