Did you know I bind quilts too?
I bind on average 2-3 quilts a week. Last week I didn’t have any so of course this week I have 5. Stacked like a cute set of rocks just waiting for the quilts to finish quilting.
I also have a strong opinion about double fold bindings being so much better. Here’s why. My quilts are LOVED!!! Maybe my house is tough on quilts with three boys and animals that cuddle with us. When you have two layers of binding on the edge of the quilt that is going to be dragged around is going to last quite a bit longer and give more stability. Most places are using a foot attachment which will give you the same beautiful finished binding but there will only be one layer of fabric as most of these attachments are sewing them in as a single fold style. I will always put in the extra time for a double fold.
Picture of my personal ride or die quilt that has been beyond well loved and will probably get rebound at some point in the next few years. You can see my first layer of binding is starting to wear out from all the love but the under layer of the double fold is hanging in strong. This quilt has been loved and washed for about 15 years and is used daily 9 months of the year so I feel like the binding has done a good job.
