Good grades can tell us a lot, but they don’t tell us everything. 🧠

Some bright, academically successful kids may still struggle behind the scenes with organization, emotional regulation, sensory processing, coordination, or executive functioning.

Because they’re capable, they may find ways to compensate, work around challenges, or hold it together at school, making those struggles easier to miss.

That’s why it’s important to look beyond grades and ask: How much effort is it taking my child to keep up?

If everyday tasks, transitions, emotions, or routines consistently feel harder than expected, those challenges are worth paying attention to.

Emotional regulation isn't something children learn overnight—it's a skill that develops through consistent practice.

Simple habits like mindful breathing, spending time outdoors, practicing gratitude, or using grounding exercises like the 5-4-3-2-1 technique (identify 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste) can help children build self-awareness, resilience, and confidence over time.

If you've tried coping strategies, reward systems, or reminders but your child still struggles with focus, emotional regulation, or impulsivity, it may be worth looking beneath the behaviors to understand what's contributing to those challenges.

Read our latest blog to discover practical mindfulness activities your family can start today and learn why building stronger brain pathways matters. 💙

As the school year approaches, remember that children learn how to express emotions by watching the adults around them.

Instead of only asking, ""Are you excited for school?"" try modeling your own feelings first.

You might say: "I'm feeling a little nervous about my first day back at work, but I'm also excited to see my coworkers."

Then invite your child to share: "How are you feeling about going back to school?"

Whether they feel excited, nervous, worried, or a mix of emotions, letting them know those feelings are normal helps build emotional awareness and confidence.

Sometimes, the best way to teach emotional regulation is by showing children that it's okay to name their feelings, and that big emotions can be managed together.

This activity is doing more than building strength. 🧠

Holding a prone extension position requires the brain to process information about where the body is in space while coordinating posture, balance, and movement against gravity.

Skills like body awareness, postural control, and motor coordination create a child's important foundation for many everyday activities—from sitting upright and navigating the wolrd around them to participating in physical and classroom activities.

At Brain Balance, we look at how these foundational systems work together as part of the bigger picture of development.

Looking for the "best" brain exercise for memory? 🧠

The answer isn't a single activity. Memory is supported through a combination of cognitive training, movement, and activities that challenge coordination and working memory together.

That's why Brain Balance incorporates exercises designed to engage multiple brain systems at the same time, helping support memory, attention, and everyday learning.

If getting your child to stay seated at the dinner table is a daily struggle, this video is for you.

It may seem like they're just restless, but for some children, constantly leaving the table or seeking movement can be a sign that something else is going on.

In this video, Dr. Rebecca explains why some children crave movement, how it can affect everyday routines like family meals, and why understanding the root cause is so important.

If you're noticing similar behaviors at home, contact us today to learn how a Brain Balance Assessment can help identify your child's unique needs and the best path forward.
