Wrist Manipulations and Cavaliers for Self-Defense | There Are Better Options 08/22/2021

So about those wrist manipulations and cavaliers... I recognize this could upset a lot of people, but the fact of the matter is they're just not that great (in my humble opinion) --- or at least as good as the other options available to you. When defending an edged weapon there are about 435932 things that need to happen before I would do a cavalier. Control of the weapon arm, 2on1, a LOT of striking...the cavalier should be the very last thing that you do IF you even need to do it.

There are many ways to teach proper edged-weapon principles. The nuances are endless. A glimpse into how I teach knife, as a whole, is this:
🗡
1. Intercept
2. Forward Pressure/Read Energy
3. 2on1 Control
4. Strikes setup transitions and positions
5. Takedown, takeaway, disengage, or finish it.
(Not always in that order)

You'll see/hear many internet "scholars" and "experts" debate the finer details of handling a knife, but nothing will ever take the place of what this video portrays --- live reps, play, discovery, experimentation, etc. My technique isn't always perfect, but the method of practice is, or at least continually getting closer. My application and thoughts on knife are a summary of these components. Lessons I've discovered on my own. Bits and pieces (as well as large pieces) I've picked up in seminars and study from people like and many others 🙏. Keep discovering. Keep creating. Keep on keeping on. This is the way. 👊
