A year ago we started making plans for Spencer to quit his job and to grow my cello studio. We got many scared-for-you looks when we told people about our plan, but a year later my cello studio has doubled in size and it's been the best decision we ever made. My childhood was full of walking the aisles of fabric stores with my mom as she carefully matched and selected pieces for quilts she loved making. My girls don’t even know what a fabric store is, but instead will carry memories of afternoons playing next to me while I tackle various cello repertoire. I’m excited to see what passions their toddlers will witness from them.

What passions do you want to be remembered for?

Be placed in a small group with musicians of similar age/ability and have fun creating music together!

Musical trauma and practice anxiety are real and tough. After I graduated I had so much self doubt and a real cellist identity crisis. I couldn't practice without thoughts of past failures, to the point where I was left crying and had to put it away.

After some time and another self identity crisis of having a baby, I was able to muster the courage to do another audition. It felt so good to exercise my cello muscles once again. I won the audition and was a part of the Rogue Valley Symphony where I enjoyed a comradery of musicians who were so welcoming and kind. I felt purpose with cello again and the joys of making music.

Failures can be stabbing, brutal and all consuming, but I honestly know that when we walk through them we truly find who we were meant to be on the other side.
