One of my favorite parts of early childhood is watching learning unfold over time.

Last week, the children made an unexpected and exciting discovery. The next day, they returned to it with new ideas—testing, adjusting, collaborating, and experimenting with more complex ways to make it work.

This is what real learning looks like: not a one-and-done activity, but revisiting, refining, and deepening understanding through play. When children have the time and space to explore their own questions, their thinking grows right along with their confidence!

Did you know our state has Early Learning Standards that guide the skills children are building in preschool?

These standards outline important skills across social-emotional development, literacy, math, science, and more—but they don’t call for worksheets or rushed academics. They describe what meaningful, age-appropriate learning looks like.

A teacher who truly understands the standards can design play-focused experiences that intentionally build those skills in ways that honor how young children learn best🌱
