I can't say enough about the importance of encouraging and modeling for your children and being present outdoors! Regardless of the weather conditions, you can embrace each sensory experience, such as walking barefoot on the ground, listening to the calls of a songbird, and trying to catch a fallen leaf as it swirls in the air! In my experience, children are loosing the connection not only between their family members as well as socially, but more important, themselves! They are disconnected from their very BEINGNESS! I have the proof of that: Next time you and your child walk into a room with a television on, note that they will totally, and habitually, focus on the screen. At times, they may not even hear you if you speak. The waves emitting from the television encourages them to actually drop below their level of consciousness. For those of you who may not understand what I am saying, stop watching TV for say a week. See how you FEEL! Then, go back to it, and see how it affects your mood. Notice how the media bombard you with relentless information. No wonder people can't sleep!
“The average American child is said to spend 4 to 7 minutes a day in unstructured play outdoors, not including sports, and more than 7 hours in front of a screen."
