🌸 Tip of the Week: A Clean & Organized Environment

A clean and organized environment can increase a child’s motivation to participate in activities and can also help us, as educators, perform better. A clean space brings so much peace, clarity, and a sense of calm to the classroom.

Let’s take a few extra minutes each day to reset, organize, and create a space where both children and educators can thrive! 🌼✨

Remember to support children based on their developmental level:

* Infants: Model cleaning for them by showing them how we put materials away and care for our environment.
* Toddlers: Model and guide them using different levels of support, such as full physical (hand-over-hand), partial physical (hand on the elbow), and gestural prompts (pointing).
* Preschool: Set clear expectations and be consistent with clean-up. Guide children with your words, encouragement, and positive reinforcement as they take responsibility for their classroom environment.

Clean-up is not just about having a clean classroom—it’s an opportunity to teach children independence, responsibility, and respect for their environment. 🌱

Tip of the Week: Creating a Calm Morning 🌿

You want to begin the children’s day with a calm and welcoming classroom environment. Playing soft background music without lyrics, such as instrumental music or gentle rain sounds, can help set the tone.

Remember: A child’s morning can influence how the rest of their day goes. It is much easier to gradually bring a child’s energy up than to begin the day with a hectic environment and then try to bring their energy back down.

What can you do to provide a calm morning?

* 🎶 Play soft instrumental music or calming sounds.
* 🧩 Provide table toys or simple activities, especially for younger children.
* 📋 Review classroom rules and expectations consistently.
* 🤫 Remind children that mornings are calm and model calm behavior for them.
* ⏰ Avoid long transitions. Long periods of waiting can quickly lead to chaos.
* 📝 Have a plan for the morning and know what comes next.
* 👀 Stay on your toes and remain focused on the children.
* 🚫 Don’t allow distractions to pull your attention away from supervising and engaging with the children.

The goal is to create a predictable, calm, and organized start to the day where children know what to expect and teachers are prepared to guide them.

💡 Families can use these same tips at home to help create a calm and positive start to their child’s day. Small routines, calm music, simple morning activities, and clear expectations can help children transition into their day feeling more prepared and regulated.

At Academy of the Little Flower, our center theme from June through August has been Nature and Outdoor Learning. 🌿🍃

For the month of August, our teachers selected a variety of nature inspired sub themes, with many choosing Camping. ⛺️ They only began transforming their classrooms this week, and it is amazing to see how much they have already accomplished.

I truly love the creativity, dedication, and passion our teachers put into their classrooms. One of the best parts is seeing the excitement on the children’s faces when they walk into their classroom for the first time and watching them use their imaginations to bring the environment to life.

This is what early childhood education is all about. Creating meaningful learning experiences, inspiring curiosity, encouraging creativity, and helping children learn through play. We are so proud of our teachers for making each classroom a place where children can explore, imagine, and grow every day. 💚✨

Next week, May 4–8, we are excited to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week at The Academy of the Little Flower! 🌸

Each day, we’ll be honoring our incredible teachers with small treats as a token of our gratitude. Their dedication, patience, and passion make a lasting difference in the lives of our children every single day.

We are so thankful for all that our early childhood educators do. Nurturing young minds, creating a safe and loving environment, and helping each child grow and thrive. 💛

This month our classrooms have been filled with meaningful conversations, inspiring stories and joyful learning as we’ve explored the lives and contributions of many amazing black historians, leaders and change makers.

From learning about trailblazers like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges, to celebrating artists like Maya Angelou and Stevie Wonder, and even the amazing athletes like Simone Biles, Michael Jordan and Jackie Robinson, the children here at the Academy Of The Little Flower have been discovering how courage, creativity, and determination can change the world.

Our educators took the celebration even further by decorating each of their classroom doors in honor of Black History Month. Our hallways have been changed into beautiful displays highlighting powerful messages, influential figures and of course stundent work!

We are so proud of the conversations happening in our classrooms and the meaningful ways our community is celebrating black history, culture and excellence ❤️🖤💚
