Did anyone catch Sam and Terin at Easterseal's Ride to Thrive: Bike for the Kids event at Panton Mill Park a few weekends ago? MECA was a proud sponsor of this wonderful event in support of children with disabilities and their families! To add to the fun, Sam and Terin decorated 250 egg shakers by hand and added an easy-to-hold elastic band to each one so all of our friends could make some noise for the riders!

Congrats to our Student of the Month- Max B!

Max has been taking lessons at MECA since the summer of 2024. He likes the uniqueness of the trombone, as it is the only instrument played with a slide. Max’s favorite song he has learned is The Last Battle by Ralph Ford. Max plays the trombone for school and plays the drums. Max likes gaming, playing sports, and working out in his free time. His main hobby is working on RC cars, though he plans to get into sim racing.

Congrats to our Teacher of the Month- Mr. Jimmy M!

Jimmy has been teaching at MECA for 3 years and has been playing music for 18 years. He teaches brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and is passionate about helping students reach their full potential by making steady progress in every lesson.
Jimmy earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from Northern Illinois University. In addition to teaching at MECA, he serves as the District Band, Choir, and Music Director at Alden-Hebron School District and is an active performer, arranger, and conductor throughout the Chicagoland area.
Outside of teaching, Jimmy enjoys collecting antique video games, performing and conducting in musicals, and spending time with his dog, Sasha. He has a wide-ranging taste in music but especially enjoys jazz and hits from the 2000s and 2010s. While trumpet is his primary instrument, he also plays all band instruments, with a particular love for French horn and drums.

It's performance week!!

Here's a throwback to last year's MECA Amplified performance, where our teacher band closed out the day with The Chain by Fleetwood Mac.

This Sunday, our newest lineup of student bands will take the stage after weeks of rehearsing, collaborating, and putting together an incredible show. We can't wait for everyone to see what they've been working on!

👀 And once the students have rocked the stage... let's just say our teachers may have a little something special planned again this year.

Join us at Pollyanna Brewing this Sunday at 1pm for an afternoon of live music, great energy, and an amazing celebration of our students. We hope to see you there!
