DAY SIX: May 9th, 2026, A day of cold rainy weather made for a successful day of live fire training regardless. All students attended and conducted various fire ground skills we taught over the last five weeks of class. These students of the fire service showed confidence and professionalism this day.

We as instructors are always so humbled by the dedication these students put into our class, from sacrificing weekends, missing time with family, and spending their mornings with us. The fire service in the volunteer side needs firefighters like these to staff these stations and engines to better help the citizens of Franklin County.

Thank you to all that have attended. Go forward in your careers in the fire service and as we always said. This training program is not to be the last formal learning to be done. Continue to go out and soak up knowledge, get hands on experience and keep running the calls with your departments.

A massive thank you to all the departments that graciously hosted their classrooms, stations, firefighters, and equipment. These classes take so much preparation and efforts from all involved and being able to have locations to hold these classes is essential.

DAY FIVE: A day of review, from ladder throws to hose advancement and victim removal under non-ideal conditions. Students continued increasing their skills in all stations taught throughout this program. We’ve seen great progress in all those that have attended and sought out the training these weeks. As we’ve said in class, we are excited to see all those put those skills to the test during our live burn day this weekend!

DAY FOUR: A day full of hose operations. Stretching lines, flowing water, advancing within structures, engine company basics on the fire ground. Students were able to familiarize themselves with hydrants, supplying water. Going over minuteman and flat load crosslays. Experiencing 1.75” versus 2.5” hose streams and smooth bores versus combination nozzles. All in all a good day of training, hosted again by South Deerfield Fire Department.

DAY THREE: Search and rescue operations of structure fires. Lecture going over types of searches and safety considerations. Paired with hands on victim drags and carries, and masking up at the door stations. The afternoon consisted of 3 hours of continuous reps of scenarios. All of which utilized multiple crews and many different types of rescue mannequins.

Students first conducted clear visibility “oriented” search techniques and later graduated to no visibility scenarios through the use of a fog machine. Sticking to the basics and using an “anchored” search.

The day was a success and we are very happy to have South Deerfield Fire Department as a host department again, using their tools and acquired structure! Thank you to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office for donating lunches towards our students so that we could remain on site and continue training!
