Spotlight Upshur County Schools:
Upshur County Schools would like to celebrate our work with the Farms to School. We have a large and very active Future Farmers of America (FFA) program in Upshur County, and we have worked closely with the Office of Child Nutrition to develop a county wide program and hire a Farm to School Coordinator. We are raising awareness, generally, and within the schools, about the health importance of eating high quality, locally produced foods and the skills and talents required to produce, prepare and serve them. Our motto is “Local, Sustainable, Durable, and Educational.” The basic focus of the Farm to School Program is to increase the amount of locally produced food served in Upshur County Schools, but Farm to School is so much more than serving local food. We want to improve alimentary health through modeling local food choices in the cafeteria, train-the-trainer CTE programs, and educational activities with the general student population.
