What does February vacation look like for your child?

At Davis Community School, we see vacation as time to slow down, follow curiosity, and learn through doing...and we have the perfect idea to achieve this!

Adventures in Art Camp (Feb 23–27) invites children to explore materials, test ideas, and build meaning through hands-on, open-ended art making. Throughout the week, students will work with watercolor, paint, pastels, textiles, wood, and more, moving between 2-D and 3-D work as their ideas unfold in our studio.

In Primary 1, math often looks like play!

Children explore numbers through building, sorting, counting, comparing, and problem solving as they work with materials and one another. Through play, math becomes something they can touch, test, and return to again and again.

In the Artist's Path Summer Camp Program's LEGO camps, students build, test, and revisit ideas through hands-on construction, exploring early engineering concepts while working at a thoughtful, steady pace.

Remember those woven placemats we shared last week? That was your first hint, but the cat's out of the bag and we are ready to share more!

Since returning from break, our students have begun a long term collaborative project inspired by Judy Chicago and her installation The Dinner Party.

They are creating personalized table settings that reflect who they are, their ideas, interests, and ways of working. Over the coming weeks, each individual piece will join together as one shared sculptural installation, shaped slowly and thoughtfully by our Primary 1 community.💙

This work centers process, identity, and collaboration, and gives students time to return to ideas, materials, and one another.

Davis Studio Preschool is a 4 STAR, Act 166 qualified pre-k program. We serve students ages 6 months – 5 years.

Arts Rich & Play-Based Children are natural artists, scientists and explorers, curious about the world around them. Davis Studio Preschool offers a unique arts-rich, play-based program designed for joyful, authentic and meaningful experiences.

Fostering Creativity Arts-based learning stimulates imagination, encourages engagement and fosters creativity. Your child will try new things, increase in competence and gain confidence as they grow and develop.

Cultivating Curiosity Our approach is inspired by Reggio Emilia. We support children as inquisitive learners who are deeply curious and capable. Engaging Activities During Explore Time children might paint, sculpt with clay, make prints, tinker, experiment at the sand and water table, build with blocks, act out a story with puppets, bake with a teacher or care for the classroom by watering plants and sweeping. Our Community Circle may include activities such as music, dance, yoga, a variety of children’s literature, foreign language exposure, science explorations, math games or a visitor sharing an interesting object or experience. Outdoor Time becomes an extension of our classroom to provide opportunities for movement, discovery, play and investigation of the natural world. All activities are designed to allow children to build confidence and challenge their emerging abilities.

Building a Community Social Skill development is of utmost importance during the preschool years. Clear communication, listening and cooperation are modeled, encouraged and supported. Social skills developed during early childhood will sustain and enrich your child throughout their life and support them in developing heart-felt values, such as empathy and respect for one another.
