The morning began with tinkering; exploring puzzles, nails, bolts, and loose parts before naturally following the children’s curiosity into a colorful baking soda and vinegar investigation!

Through fizzing, bubbling, mixing, and experimenting, the children explored cause and effect, transformation, and their own theories. This is emergent curriculum in action: following children’s questions and allowing their ideas to guide where learning goes next.

Rooted in the Reggio-inspired approach and the 100 Languages of Children, we see learning happen through many forms, movement, color, sensory exploration, collaboration, experimentation, and play.

In the Cedar classroom at EA, Ms. Lindsey creates an environment where the children’s curiosity leads the way, and honors every child’s unique language of learning.

Today we had a very special visit with Mr. Max as we celebrated his last day with our Kid Logic community before he begins his next adventure.

Mr. Max invited the children into the world of music through his electric guitar. He introduced red light, green light in a whole new way, encouraging the children to listen closely and follow the changing speed and sounds of his guitar. He also shared how an electric guitar works, giving the children an opportunity to ask questions, experiment with the instrument, and experience music through their own hands.

We spent time playing together, exploring rhythm and sound, and singing some of our favorite songs before wrapping up our time together.

At Kid Logic, we believe music and the arts are powerful ways for children to communicate, connect, create, and make meaning. Mr. Max has brought so much joy, creativity, music, and love into our community, and we are incredibly grateful for the experiences he has shared with our children and educators.

Thank you, Mr. Max, for being part of our Kid Logic family. We will miss you dearly and are cheering you on as you begin your next adventure!

Ms. Jamie, our EA Art Teacher, offered this beautiful open-ended experience that brought mark-making and tinkering together. The children were invited to create their own objects using a variety of materials and textures, then experiment with rolling them down a ramp to see the different marks they could create.

As they explored, the children observed and compared the unique textures and sensations of rubber bands, bubble wrap, pipe cleaners, and paint. They experimented with how each material moved, felt, and left its own mark, turning the experience into an opportunity for creativity, discovery, and problem-solving.

Once the painted ramps had dried, Ms. Jamie extended the experience by inviting the children to create their own bracelets. Using hole punches and paper punches, the children practiced fine motor skills while choosing shapes and designing their creations in ways that reflected their own ideas.

From tinkering to mark-making to creating something entirely their own, the children were given the freedom to explore materials, make choices, and bring their ideas to life.

People often ask us, “How do infants experience Reggio Emilia-inspired learning?”

During our tinkering session, our Seedlings explored what it means to experiment with loose parts, and for infants, that exploration can look very different depending on where they are developmentally.

For our youngest Seedlings, tinkering may look like gripping a block, attempting to connect two pieces, using a pincer grasp to tug at Velcro, or simply feeling and investigating different textures. These seemingly simple actions are actually meaningful opportunities to build fine-motor strength, hand-eye coordination, and curiosity.

For our oldest Seedlings, the exploration becomes a little more complex. One was completely captivated by the cup and spoon, experimenting with stirring the natural glue we prepared. Others were drawn to pinecones, fascinated by their rough texture and unique shape.

There is no single “right” way to participate. The materials invite the exploration, and the child decides where it goes.

And after all that tinkering, experimenting, touching, stirring, pulling, and discovering, our Seedlings left us with a one-of-a-kind mural made from the materials they explored.

That is Reggio-inspired learning, even for our tiniest learners.

When STEM and SEL meet

As children worked together to create bubbles large enough to stand inside, they explored concepts like surface tension, prediction, and problem-solving. At the very same time, they practiced something just as important: understanding body boundaries and respecting each other’s personal bubbles.

They asked for permission before stepping in, waited for friends to finish, collaborated to lift the bubble wand, and learned that keeping our bodies safe helps everyone enjoy the experience.

At Kid Logic, the best learning happens when curiosity, collaboration, and kindness come together.

Confidence isn’t built by avoiding challenges, it grows by facing them. On the pump track, our Forester’s are assessing risks, making quick decisions, adjusting their bodies, and trying again after every wobble. Each hill climbed and turn mastered strengthens more than their riding skills; it builds resilience, independence, and the confidence to trust themselves. When children are given opportunities to take age-appropriate risks in a supportive environment, they discover what they’re truly capable of. Sometimes the greatest growth happens just beyond their comfort zone.
