Great summer safety tip. One my twin and I almost learned after we foolish left our LIFEJACKETS in the ๐ถ at Mad River. Thank God the Lord watches over children and fools. We were excellent swimmers, smart kids but almost drowned that day.
Say it with us: โEven the strongest and most experienced swimmers can drown.โ
This is why itโs critical to make water safety a priority, not only during the summer months, but also every day. Before you start making summer plans to head to the beach or pool, check these important steps off your list first:
โ
Ensure everyone in your family knows how to swim well
โ
Know how to perform CPR and first aid by taking a class

Cultural Competence. I have been an RN since 1994. I graduated from Wright State University several other times. To quote My Mother:" Sam we do not need any more pictures of you in caps and gowns." In my fifty-two years of life I have finally figured out most of your education will not be from academia. Your important life lessons will come from bearing witness to other actions or mitigating your own mistakes. We often think others are the experts because of letters behind their names. I would like to point out how often times we ignore the expert -- the person (usually the patient or family sitting in front of us). Cultural competence in the medical community is a hot button issue. Currently often written about. As professionals we can read all of the article's we want on cultural that are prevalent in our communities. A person can be of Korean descent but raised by a black or white family. I think we forgot how much linguistics, signs (semiology) plays a role in culture and providing healthcare.
I was watching a crime show this weekend. The young man was being interviewed as a potential suspect. He was summarizing his activities as --we went there to rob him and so on and so on and so on. Working in corrections I would assume the "so on" could include murder but the detective did not ask any follow up questions.
Cultural competence does not come from academic articles. Cultural competence comes from curiosity and or admitting our ignorance to our patients' asking questions.
For those new to the nursing field whether RN or NP student this technique works great in touching on other sensitive issues -- if you are not very worldly about a subject a patient brings up excuse my ignorance but can tell me more about >>>>>>
