“While working as a community organizer, I would hear parents, grandparents, and students saying ‘People always ask why? Why aren't students interested in school or why aren’t we taking advantage of resources and opportunities? But when we answer those people, the ones that asked, those people --the ones we talk to directly, they don't anything around here to change or fix problems we tell them about, what you are doing is great but what else can you help with?’ and after speaking with Alkeyna, we called some friends and got started. I went from being a community organizer to working for the community.”
